My 09 Corolla XRS is idleing rough. Not high or low, just a lot of vibration. I've taken it to the dealer. All they told me is the idle is controled by the computer so there's nothing that can be done. No codes have been thrown on the computer, but it's very annoying to be sitting in a brand new car that runs more rough than the one I traded it in for. All I get from the dealer is, "Sorry there's nothing we can do." I feel screwed over. Can anyone suggest something I can do?
like the advice i gave on the other thread... write or call directly to toyota in your country if the dealer is refusing to do the appropriate service on your vehicle. phone calls are easy to do.
Mine sometimes idles rough too. A few times when I've put the clutch in, the headlights have dimmed and the engine has stalled. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet.
Please let me know what your dealership tells you, if you take it in. My dealership was no help. I have sent the issue directly to Toyota via e-mail. I will post their response on this thread when they get back to me.
Yeah, i get the same thing in my S sometimes. I'll be pulling into a parking lot, sit there for a few seconds and the rpms will drop pretty low and rattle the car, then raise back up.
just a thought... are your engines filled with full synthetic oils? are your ATF full synthetic too? those rattles and rough idlings are one of my fears in driving a car. im used to those defects from the old car that my 09 corolla replaced.
it wont hurt you or your engine to put FULL synthetic oil and FULL synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. just try and the symptoms might go away.
I switched to a Full Synthetic for my engine and it reduced... or it could have been that the Idle has gone away due to the engine finally being fully worked in. 10000km on it so far.
I noticed this morning that when the car is idling in Park, it smooths out. When I put it in gear (it's an automatic) it starts to vibrate. Does anyone know if this could be a transmission problem? I'm taking it to the dealer on Thurs. I'll post again and let you all know what they say. I e-mailed Toyota yesterday, no response yet.

I'll try switching to synthetic fluids this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion. My XRS has 5400 miles on it so maybe I need to let it break in more. I will also be switching to premium gas and platinum spark plugs. We'll see if we can't work this out. Maybe it just needs some upgrades.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I really appreciate it guys!

Chances are it already has platinum or iridium plugs in it. I would leave the O.E. stuff in it, about the best there is.
