I wrote to Toyota Canada

I wrote to Toyota Canada, and even gave them the link to the excessive oil consumption problem on certain Corollas and Matix's.

I went on toyota.ca and sent an email asking them for more information about the problem, and gave them the TSB number, so that they can see that we are well aware of the problem.

I told them that I was thinking of buying another Corolla, but now my decision is on hold, until they give me a complete explanation about this problem, and what I can do to solve it.

I just received a reply from Toyota:

Dear Mr. Dorkinheimer

Thank you for your recent correspondence.

When it is necessary for Toyota Canada Inc. to issue special service campaigns for vehicles, owner's of affected vehicles are notified by mail.

With respect to Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), these bulletins describe specific symptoms that some vehicles may experience, and outline the procedure for repairing the condition. Technicians will check for TSB's on the vehicle if the customer has complained about a specific condition. However, since they are used only as a diagnostic tool, it's not routine to look for all TSB's when a vehicle comes in for service. Because the TSB is used only as a diagnostic tool, repairs done using them are not considered warranty if the vehicle's original warranty has run out, or the repair is not covered by any manufacturer or aftermarket extended warranty.

Please be advised that if you wish to obtain any of the requested technical information, we kindly suggest that you contact your local Toyota dealership.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

Sincerely,

(Name Removed)

Well, at least you got a good explanation as to what a TSB is.

Which is why I wonder why people go to the dealer with the issue, when they do not have any symptoms.

I think you are safe buying a Corolla, and rest assured every model out there has a TSB or two.
