My Silver Surfer S

Just a few pix of my new Classic Silver Metallic Corolla S. So far I have debadged the rear, tint, Alpine system, and LED tails. I'm currently waiting for my 6000K digital HID kit to arrive. Future mods include lowered suspension, 18" or 19" wheels, and MAYBE intake & exhaust.

Haha, you're right. It's not very legible from that angle, so I didn't bother to edit it.

Nice ride man . I dunno about lowering a rolla. Its a personal taste but myself i find a lowered rolla looks kinda goofy. I guess being a older i like the simple look . Must be a young guy thing

Nice car!! Although I am somewhat prejudiced to the silver ones! Aren't those 15" plastic hub caps? That's odd - the S package here includes 16" aluminum wheels.

Yah me too , but when i pull up to a dropped rolla, mine just looks a little silly. Shorter springs or coilovers are how you can drop it. Its effect is more aesthetic as you remove that awful 4 finger gap but i guess it handles a little better (or stiffer). but not too much with lowering springs, its still driveable.

If you like it right now, just change the wheels, but i bet you anything you will be itching to drop it, but be prepared to spend some money.

dropped clearances makes the ride stiffer than stock springs but the car is more stable than before because the car is nearer to the center of gravity. for my personal taste i can live with stiffer rides knowing that my car is more stable.

joeylgarcia: You are correct. Generally when you lower a car the ride gets a little stiffer, but the lower center of gravity improves the handling. It really depends on what kind of suspension setup you're running.

MXs: That's how I feel. I do it mainly for aesthetic purposes, getting rid of that gaudy wheel gap. The improved handling is a nice little bonus too.

Big05Taco: Yeah, I fell in love with the silver. Elegant color. Those are 16" hubcaps, they come standard on the S package.

RedRave: I feel the opposite as you. I can't stand the goofy 4x4 stance of the Corolla (or any car for that matter). Especially when you have (or plan to get) nice aftermarket wheels it's a must in my opinion. Makes the car look so much nicer. I'm 29 years old, and I've loved lowered cars since I was a little kid.

andrewwoo: Thanks. Yeah, 18's will definately be fine and 19's should be okay as well. So far I'm leaning towards the 18's. 18's will be more affordable and will offer a smoother ride than the 19's. Not to mention tires will be significantly less.

bennijai: There are a few ways to drop your car depending on your budget and what you're trying to accomplish. The most common way are lowering springs which is simply a shorter, stiffer spring. Then you have coilovers. Coilover is short for "coil (spring) over strut". The shock absorber and spring are preassembled as a unit prior to installation. They provide optimal damping without torsional loads. Using a threaded spring perch (nut) you can adjust the height. If you really want to get sick with it (and you have lots of money to burn) you can bag your car. Airbag suspension does away with a mechanical spring and employs a heavy-duty rubber airbag that can be inflated by an in-car compressor or an external pressure source. In most instances, air suspension systems retain the services of a damper to control wheel movement.
