Availability has really increased here
Just came back from my first dealer oil change (the oil consumpton TSB was flashed a couple of months ago and I will know now if it solved the problem) and wow, were there a ton of corollas and just about everything else on the lot....even a few Prius' and used ones too. (I do not even drive that much any more) Lots of 05-08 used certified Corollas too!
FYI, This dealer uses 5w20 bulk, but since I do not really drive too much any more, that is what I had them use, even though they do offer 0w20 synthetic if you wish. (Our temp swings are outrageous and so I have no problem with 5w20 over the 0w20. They chg $39 for the change, but for warranty purposes, I do not want the hassel.
They even had a rack of the fluted filter wrenches for sale in the waiting area. BUT Figuring 20 dollars for a 5 gal jug of Mobil 1 0w20 (Wally World) + $6 for an oem filter element, it is really not worth it for me to do it myself anymore
I bought in June 0f 2008 as gas hit its highest prices(a 2009 XLE) when as as soon as a Corolla hit the lot, it was snatched up...NOT NOW IT SEEMS.
Even with the current gas prices, I have no regrets about getting out of my SUV and into the Corolla. The Prius's I saw there were stickered about $9k (usd) higher than the Corollas (XLE models)...that would buy a lot of gas and would not be a wise choice for me anyway...$30k is just not realistic IMHO
Anyone wanting a 2009 Corolla could probably just about name their own price IMHO. When I bought, it took 4.5 hrs of haggling (I was just about to walk when they came around)!!!! I did ok considering the timing I guess on the price. No regrets, I like the car and this is the smallest auto I have ever owned and I used to buy about every 2 yrs....those days are over! Now, I hope the 09 Corolla lives up to the high quality Toyota has had in the past with limited trouble
Oh well, I have no regrets about my purchase, and still believe that this lowering of gas price is a short term issue. Americans (I am American) have a very short memory! It will only take 1 incident to set oil prices on the move again. We are at a low of about $3.19 regular and when you really think about it....it is still not cheap! We are just getting over the shock of that $4.13 it hit in the summer!. Even if it stabilizes at $2.75....THE EXCELLENT MPG OF THE COROLLA WILL COME IN HANDY! This price reduction is just less painful for the pocket!
