Canada Not enough experienced people in the car business.

I understand that there is a shortage of experienced people in the car repair business today. With all the complicated electronics and sophisticated systems on cars, even Corollas. The average tech has to be constantly taking courses. I was told it was because of the tech boom that happened about 10 years ago that all the young people went into tech for the big bucks, not many went into mechanics because it is a dirty job. Will a shortage of younger people and the older ones retiring, the situation is bound to get worse.

Yeap, I went to my car shop to get my alarm/remote start put in since I didn't have the time to do it myself. They seemingly botched the job, even though they had the wiring diagrams and all. I would figure at least that much competency would be there. I've heard a similar thing from many people about some independent shops. I think dealer shops require certain amounts of training/certification, that's why they charge an arm and a leg for it. Luckily I've found a great mechanic now; I look for "ex-dealer mechanic" owned shops, haven't gone wrong with that in a few years..

That's good to know. So you might think job prospects are good for trained service techs, beats sitting around in front of computers punching in commands, oh wait but that's part of it as well LoL.....Then there's the fun parts like burning yourself on hot mufflers or jabbiing yourself in the hand with a screwdriver.....hehe just kidding
