Canada Rattle in Rear/Trunk Fixed

I thought I'd share this with everybody...

I was going to install a spoiler on my LE yesterday but wimped out (I'll get it gone at a shop). After I removed all of the prep materials, I thought that it would be a good time to try to find what the source of a rattle was. I was experiencing it in the back of the car when I travelled over even the slightest bump and it was REALLY getting on my nerves (one of my pet peaves is rattles in my car).

I opened the trunk and started tapping my hand on all of the interior surfaces. I found that when I made even the slightest tap on the left wall of the trunk there was a rattle like something was loose. I removed the retaining clips (3 or 4 of them) and bent back the liner. I found what I think was the trunk release cable resting against the rear quarter panel. I was just kind there, no clips or anything to keep it from moving around. I secured it with a few zip ties and... NO MORE RATTLE!!!! Now I can relax!

If anybody else is experiencing a rattle in the back, the trunk cable could very well be the source. Come on Toyota, how much would a couple of plastic clips cost?

Thanks for the tip. Will check that out too.

As well, another common annoyance are the clips/pins that are used to hold the rear glass in place while the glue cures. These pins can rattle away - and aren't required (ie: can be safely cut out). Just carefully pull the headliner down (carefully!! not too far as the headliner will can bend and will stay bent) and you should see them. I've also read here that some have used a glue-gun to keep this thing from rattling around too. Which ever way works...

Yeah - seems my dash wasn't installed properly. Now that the dealer fixed that, I have rattles in the headliner. Frigen hate that since they (apparantly) have to pop the windshield to take out the headliner. That's an overnighter for sure...
