215/55-16

anyone try this size yet? its .5"s taller and .5"s wider than the 205/55-16 factory size. usually there is extra room to accomodate snow chains so stepping up a 1/2" in size is ok.
i would just order two for the front to test fit them but im afraid that would wreak havok with the VSC and you cant turn it off above 30MPH

i have to get ride of these crappy goodyears. i envoke the traction control everytime i take off over .25 throttle.

I think the 205/55-16 is actually a tad smaller than what you get with the 15" or 17" wheels (25" overall diameter), so your 215/55-16 is only around 0.3-something inches bigger than what the car's built for. I have heard 3% margin is ideal - and you're only looking at maybe 1.5%. I think you should be good. At worst, your speedometer will say 70 when you're really going 71.

pretty much all cars sold in europe have a 3% speedo error due to tight euro laws. they feel that a speedo should never read under actual speed so the manufacturers build in a little error to avoid heavy fines. i also found this tire that i thought would be pretty sweet:

225/50ZR16
Load Index 92 = 1389lbs (630kg) per tire
Speed Rating “Y” = 186mph (300kph) 92Y SL Treadwear: 500

these specs all came off of tirerack.com
their prices are impossible to beat and they ship super fast usually arrive within three days. ive been using them for 16 years now.

has anyone tried to put a full size spare in the donut location? it looks like there is plenty of room. its about all the factory tires are good for.

I wouldn't recommend a taller tire due to the low torque of the 4 cyl engine........it's simply harder to turn a taller tire. I replaced the 205/55/16 RS-A's on our Ponyota Vibe with 225/50/16 TripleTreds which are virtually identical diameter to the stock 205's. Great tire.....now have 31K + miles and they look almost new.
