How to get Scratch/swirl marks off of clear coat ??
hey guys, i own a 2009 Black S, when i bought the car it was night time and the idiot retard guys that prepped my car washed it and i guess used a dirty or rough cloth to dry my car, next day i come outside and there were swirl and scratch marks EVERYWHEREE
i raised hell when i went back, and the salesguy said he got his guy to "buff" it which he did a horrible ass job
my question is, they are not scratches because they are not deep in the surface. they are swirl marks literally everywhere on the car and its black so u can see then everywhere but they are on the clear coat....anyone know of anything that can get these scratches off ??
should i take it to a detail shop and have them strip the clear coat ?
anything i can do myself ?
any help would be greatly appreciated guys
thank you

I use an electric buffer, there are many products on the market that you can apply to remove or reduce the swirel marks. Mechanical random orbitol buffers do a better job than by hand.
Random orbital buffer is the way to go. Never use a standard buffer unless you know exactly what you are doing. Get a medium aggressive pad and some light compound by 3M. Go to reputable auto parts/products store for these items. That should do it.
I understand the car is new and all... but it is just a corolla... You can't keep it perfect forever. I can understand being anal about it if it were an IS-F or something... but for a 20k car i dont personally see the point.
Either way, if you want to reduce the scratches... use a buffer and Maguires or Mothers... or any other brand of polish/scratch removal product.

Geezuz man, I guess you don't see the point. 20 thousand dollars is a lot of money for some of us. Besides, if a guy wants his paint job in pristine condition, that is his right. If you want your vehicle to look like hell, that is yours. What planet are you from?

I guess some people like to take care of their stuff, regardless of the price tag. But if you're above detailing your Corolla, more power to you. I see a ton on the roads in crappy condition, you'll fit right in.

LOL earth... I've just given up on trying to keep mine perfect. I get dinged with rock chips weekly... so i'm bitter about all the effort i put into trying to keep my xrs "pristine". All the power to you if you want to put the effort into it... but in time you will too lose the ambition to keep your car perfect. Swirls are going to pop up no matter what you do, and A-HOLES are going to open their doors into your door, and walk by and scrape your car with their coat zipper or briefcase... thats all i'm trying to say... and yes 20k is a lot of money to me too... but it is just a car.
*edit* / p.s.
- I do take care of my rolla... i just don't try and keep it showroom because after one stone chip it can no longer be perfect. I still wash it and wax it regularly. I just don't spend hours each day anymore making sure there are no swirls or scratches

I understand what you're saying. My last vehicle was black. It was great after a nice detail...for 25 minutes.
It seems like our paint is very easy to scratch, or maybe thats with all cars. I thought life you be easier with magnetic grey, but I was wrong.
IT's a fact of life. If you buy a black car (or dark colour) and it has no metallic flakes in the paint, you'll see swirl marks. I've seen $60k black BMW's and Lexus's with swirl marks. It's the colour not the paint. Metallic paint flakes will help to keep swirls from showing as much...but surprisingly many manufacturers don't go this way - probably because it tends to makes it "less black".
My blue one has swirls and I'm pretty careful with abrasions. Best bet is to keep it clean and waxed - buffing every once in awhile.
Might be worth taking it in to be detailed once a year. I saw what these guys did (beautiful!) to buff out a significant scratch on my hood from some cat or bird (where's my shotgun??!!).
Black Sand Pearl is the name and I believe it has the metallic chips/flecks in it just like the blue, red, sand, silver and green. White is the only color without metallic chips/flecks.

yea my car DOES have metallic chip flakes, but literally i have surface scratches every where on the car, the hood, doors, sides, roof, back, spoiler i mean like literally everywhere.
i waxed it by hand, i have a regular buffer but i have not used it yet, i want to wax it before the winter one more time, i waxed it about a month ago by hand but i guess the buffer will apply pressure and thats what i need to do
thanks for the info, i think i might use that 3M stuff i used to work at a pepboys and i know that stuff i heard was good, any one got anything better in mind ?
and yea i would like to keep my corolla looking as new as possible i have 1320 miles on it for crying out loud!!! LOL to the guy that said its a 20K car dont worry about it........what the hell do u mean dont worry about it ? i cant believe u said that, its a CAR, its expensive(i am 21 btw), and i think it is a nice looking car and id like to keep it looking as new as possible for as long as possible.

especially if the dealership did it, then raise hell. On the way home from the dealership you'll probably get a stone chip, mine was the next day and that's a fact of life, but no way your car at delivery should be anything less than perfect. I hate these dealership detail shops, they don't give a shit about anyones car. I wish they would just give them a spray and leave them in the hands of the customer and don't touch the frickin cars.
