USA Do you guys own a Radar Detector?

First of all I want to say hello to everyone in this forum. I just newly joined and I found that this is a very fun thing to do. Sharing info with every Toyota owner especially Corollas. This is my first post. I'm just curious, do you guys own a Radar Detector for your car? If yes, what brand and type are you using and also is it legal to use one in California? I own a Corolla S '09 automatic with I just bought last Nov. 1 '09
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

I have an Escort X50 in NEV. I believe that anything attached to your windshield with suction cups in Ca is illegal....use the Visor MOUNT. Just call the police dept and ask them about legality. Tell them you want to make sure you stay within the limits!!!!The Valentine one and Escort X50 are supposed to be the best out there.

I find that that little 1.8L gets ovet the speed limit in a hurry if you don't watch it, once you reach Hwy speed. They are on a speeding campaign here!

I LIVE IN VIRGINIA AND ITS ILLEGAL HERE!!!! But hey getting a fine for carrying an illegal radar detector is better than a reckless driving charge right?

I would have one if the cigarette lighter wasn't already being used by my XM radio. I try to keep the speeding under control. Maybe I should get one of those adaptors that lets you have multiple power outlets in your car.

I have this radar detector, and it works very well. I use it in my XRS and had one in my charger R/T. It works for both laser and radar, and I know the cops are up ahead well before they know I'm around.

Now that I sold my charger i actually have an extra laying around. Sucks to i bought them both when the price was $350.

I'd be willing to sell my extra unit for a very moderate price if anyone wants to negotiate. =)

True but it also needs to be somewhere near the windshield not in the storage compartment.

One thing also to keep in mind that using the adapter of a Radar detector and if it is always plug in your car will drain your car batteries life. I think rechargeable ones are better to have.

I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50 in my 09 Corolla S and one in my 07 Chrysler 300C Hemi. Best radar detectors that I have used so far. Never tried a Valentine.

Long power lead

You can order an extra long power wire for the Escort X50. The X50 is a great detector as is the valentine One (I have had both). The X50 is quite a bit lighter, and less bulky though, and I have picked up radar with it just laying on the seat! However for maximum range, It should be pointing out the windshield as you said. The extra long power line will give you more than enough wire to reach where you want! Do a google to find their web site and check out the accessories etc.

I have and Escort PAssport 9500i and love it! By far the best I have had yet. I commute to Virginia everyday and it has saved me countless times.

Because what I need is a long wire running through my car from the storage compartment to the windshield. Sounds like a great idea on paper...
