Unhappy I'm .... alive ...life is short.

Most of you know I travel 70 miles to school everyday. Past couple of days I was excited about getting new rims and wheels opening threads on random forums..... I never knew today would be a totally different day for me..and it would change my life completely....the way I think and do things for the rest of my life.

My car was on cruise control at a speed of 67-68 when I saw a dog crossing highway he was almost in the middle, I was on the right side, I turned my wheel towards the right side only to know that my car is totally going to crash in the woods on the right side. I knew I wasnt gonna survive if I let my car crash on the right side....so I turn the wheel completely to the left side and slammed the brakes ( not knowing my car had 99% chances of flipping because the ground on the left side was uneven with little trenches in it ) as soon as my car skids on to the left side my car stars to make beep beep noises just like you hear in the movies when a plane is going down. I dont know what alert it was. At that very moment I knew I only had 1% chance of survival. My car went flying after hitting the trench and kept going towards the other side of the highway to oncomming traffic....but I guess I was suppose to live longer...and my car stopped like half inch away from the other side of the highway...I'm still in a shock... cant believe that I'm still alive.....got out of the car.. the first thing I did was call my mum....told her...that I'm alive....and that she almost lost her eldest son...... all this happened so quick in a matter of seconds.......
there was just a little damage to the bumper.. the bottom is a little scratched and on one side it has a half inch crack on it..some black mats came off brom the bottom of my car.. dont know what those are...the tire I cant comment on it.. till I get it looked upon by a mechanic...

Most importantly I didnt suffer from any injuries... the cop and the tow trucker both told me how lucky I was... ....

Here are the pictures...

BELOW = ONCOMING TRAFFIC I ENDED UP ALMOST ON THE OTHER SIDE...

^^ THE WOODS ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHERE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED......AND TOTALLY WRECK MY CAR

good to hear that you are unhurt, that is all what matters, the rest is just material that money can buy or fix

we all tend to take for granted life until something like that happens

hope that it will be a constructive experience and glad to see that you consider it as a new way to look at life

WOW...so glad you are ok. I think that beeping may have been your stability control warning (if you have it). If so, It probably helped save you!!!

Glar you're OK !!!

From what I've read, that warning you heard was your "Vehicle Stability Control" (Standard on XRS and, in US, optional for other trims). That, with the help of your "Anti-lock Braking", "Electronic Brakeforce Distribution" and "Brake Assist" systems, probably helped you out...

Again... Glad you're OK

There is no way in hell I would have at all risked my life like that to avoid hurting an animal, unless it was big enough to pose a serious threat to my (or my passengers) life inside the cabin, like an elk or a moose or something. In this case it sounds like it should have been good night fido for sure..

(in fact if it was small enough, say a cat or squirrel, I wouldn't even brake lol)

by the way I thought you said you had new rims? those look like the stock steel wheels to me.

+1. Only worth it if it is a deer/moose, cow, horse, or a person. Glad you are alright, but not only could you have injured yourself, you may have caused a wreck.

This is why people need to run practice drills through their heads. I always play the "what-if" game while I'm driving as I have a 100 mile round trip commute every day. You really need to go over in your head what you would do if certain things happen. That way when the time comes your instinct will be the right one.

Maybe I mis-read something? you skidded off the road to avoid hitting an animal and now your life is going to change?
Did you flip the car? (pictures don't seem to show that)

It sucks that you had any damage at all, and sorry it gave you a fright (glad your ok too), but I think it might not change you life too much.

How old are you?
by the way if I'm viewing the pictures right that's quite a skid off the road (long way from your side of the road) how fast were you going?

Anyways, all you can do is learn from the event (I guess that's a change?) and move on. I hope the repair costs will be reasonable. Good luck.

Must've been scary if you haven't been in something like that before. Good to hear you're uninjured.

Glad you're okay, but what you did was stupid.

2 months ago I hit a deer at 55mph. It ran into the road at night so I gripped the wheel and gradually breaked. Sure I landed a hefty $3500 repair bill and lost my car for 3 weeks, but I did'nt put my (or anyone elses) life in danger.

Corollas are pretty safe in crashes, but they are'nt exactly great for avoiding them.

sorry to hear about your accident. I wouldn't say that you were stupid though -- that's kind of harsh to say. Any life in this world regardless is at value. Even though we see a dog as a lower being, it's still alive and conscious.

As far as what you did though, I would have tried not to hit it but broke hard on the car. If you hit it straight on and broke hard, you should be fine and the dmg on the car would have probably been less than what you have now. Glad you're 100% safe though, a car is a car --

I think you're being really insensitive. The guy almost ran onto oncoming traffic. It's called empathy. One of those human emotions. Try it for once.
