XRS question...

Anyone know if the rear disc brakes on the XRS can be a direct bolt on replacement for the S model? Thanks.

no, its a complete change in the braking system, you cannot just bolt on discs on the S model, and plus why would u want to do that ? lol did u know rear drums actually work better than discs ? and it can be very costly to do this

If you did an upgrade, you'd most likely have to replace the master cylinder as well since 2 extra discs would require a little more hydraulic pressure.

i did not know that rear drums worked better than rear discs.... i guess all of those top performance cars should be putting drums on their rear brakes instead of rear discs... what were they thinking...

Are you joking? Disc brakes are far superior to drum brakes.

Can anyone confirm if the master cylinder is definitely different? And it won't be expensive since my mother in law works for Toyota I get everything at cost.

I did a rear disc conversion for my 2002 Corolla S without changing the master cylinder and it worked for the most part but you just wouldn't be able to utilize the brakes in the back to their full potential as the master cylinder just wouldnt' be able to generate enough pressure for the pistons in the back.

As far as I know you could always pull all the related parts from an XRS and do the conversion that way. It'd be the easiest thing to do plus you'd know everything would fit for sure.

Or just bought the XRS to begin with.

I'd leave it alone.

What is it you are trying to achieve exactly? Are you wanting better stopping power, looks, larger wheels?

Its certainly not going to be an easy bolt on option. I am sure it can be done, if you're willing to spend some cash. However the brakes are one part of the car I would be more than hesitant to mod for obvious reasons.

i'd avoid tampering with your brakes.... Main reason is, unless a Dealer does it, your Warranty is VOID. Second reason, if it is just for looks, then my friend paint your drums or something. If it is for performance... well you shoulda spent the extra money on the XRS which has the easy ability to upgrade to higher performance Disc Brakes on all four corners.

Wow this forum is really full of a bunch of little girls isn't it. Who cares about warranty? I don't need the warranty. If I screw something up I'll buy the parts and replace them. Working on cars is something that is very easy to do. I bought the S because it gets better mpg than the XRS. The brakes suck balls on this car. I didn't ask for opinions on whether I should attempt this or not I want to know if the parts are interchangeable. I'm assuming that the only major difference in the XRS is the motor and the suspension. But, are the suspension parts that much different that the rear discs wouldn't bolt up to the S? That's all I want to know. I'm not talking about fabricating something. And modding your brakes is something that is very common and actually good if you are coming from a relatively fast car, like myself.

Anyone have a .pdf of the service manual for the 2009?

lol, +1

I think Enapa said it best himself.

Good luck though. More stopping power would be nice, assuming its not half the price difference between the s and xrs. I can live without the extra hp, but better handling would be great.
