Need to rust proof 2009 corolla in Ontario?

Salt is used in in ontarion and other canadian provinces to get rid of ice and snow on roads. I generally keep my car for a long time, and now wonder if it is a good idea to have my new corolla rust proofed for this first winter?

Wash your car often especially in strategic areas like inside the wheels passages, underneath the car in general, below the doors and the front hood lip. Once the car is clean and dry, you can brush a layer of thick oil or grease to protect. I have always done that with my new cars once a year and they keep rust free. My other car is a 1996 Corolla and is rust free, Montreal is one of the worst city for rust in the winter!

If you keep your car more than 5 years, It's a good investment.

Our 98 and 04 Corollas are rust and rust-proofing free here in Toronto. Put your money toward an extra payment.

Have you considered getting a electronic rust proofing system like the Counteract at crappy tire. It's on sale right now for 199. I am in Toronto myself and brought my 1999 Jeep TJ to Ontario which previously enjoyed a rust free life in BC.
I'm considering the counteract or get something similar off ebay which comes with 4 contact points, the $200 counteract only has 2 contact points.

I've done a bit of research into Electronic Rust Protection and to me it seems it does work. Also even user's personal reviews show that they are all very happy with the unit. I almost purchased it last night, but the units were sold out at most stores as they are on sale right now.

an absolutely great idea.

rustproofing is not necessary on modern cars. wash your car regularly. we get plenty of snow in michigan, and i just dont see 10-12 yr old cars with rust on them, and i do not know one single person who has done any rustproofing. you would think if rustproofing was so necessary, all these 10-12 yr old models would be all rusted out. imho, rustproofing is one of the biggest scams in existence

buddy97 it's possible the cities in your neck of the woods don't use road salt as much or it might be mixed with sand, however I be completely wrong
I just moved to Toronto this summer, before this I lived on the West cost where we don't get much snow and also in Winnipeg MB where they don't salt the roads they use sand. However, as soon as I moved to Toronto the first thing I noticed was that 4-5 year old cars had rust on them. Majority of the 10year or older cars have a lot of rust on them. My dad has a 2005 Corolla which he bought brand new and that is starting to get rust on it. They spray salt down here in South Ontario more than anywhere else I've seen, well in Canada anyways.

Works on boats, not on cars. Total BS product.

By the time your Corolla rusts, it will be very old and not worth much money anyway, so why get worked up over it? As for design flaws, you're screwed there anyway. I know people that had their Mazda 3's rustproofed, only to have them rust like crazy thanks to a Mazda design flaw. Try to collect on your rustproofing warranty and they point to Mazda being at fault. Luckily, Mazda is not being too bad about fixing problem cars (04/05 3's), but what good did the rustproofing do? Nada.
