TRD Quick Shifter Quick Review (XRS Manual)

I just installed the kit today. The install was fairly easy, the directions were straightforward.

Fist of all this part is originally for the XB, the instructions even reflect this. It is still all the same for the most part,

The only challenge was getting the retainer pins back in. You'll need a mirror to check your work.
Additionally, I had to remove both the 2nd linkage end and back U-Clip retainer to move the other cable out of the way in order to get the retaining clip in (tight area)
So I would put this at a 5 for difficulty on a scale of 1-10. In total it took about 20 minutes.

I definitely think it's worth the effort, the price on the other hand for two little parts seems double for what it should be.

As for the difference, it's about 30-35% as advertised. It seems a little notchier as well.

At least now I can finally justify my TRD LP cover. (From my 9thGen)

I have contemplated this part for quite some time.. not sure if I really want it.

I've yet to decide, maybe I'll just buy it in case I want to use it one day, haha.

Jeff

(PS: If this is a "5" on a 1-10 difficulty scale, what's a 10? Haha, this should be like a 1.5 tops).

I guess its all a matter of perspective, you're right though, it's probably a 1.5. A 10 to me would be installing an LSD or replacing synchros.

After driving all day today, I have to say I wish I had done this sooner.

I guess I don't understand the reason why someone would make it possible to shift even faster in a car that a novice can already shift faster than 'throttle by wire' allows? Is it just for the shorter throws?

Shifting faster doesn't really have much to do with it. It's more about how the shifter feels than anything else.

^^ What he said. It's really just less effort. I can almost keep my arm on the rest and comfortably shift just using my wrist. I like this mod better than a short shifter because my experience with some of them actually feel like I'm extending my arm/shoulder further when in fact my grip point on the shifter is just lower.

Has anyone else felt that the clutch engagement seems a bit too long. Hard to explain, but it's not a smooth gradual process, it's smooth for initial engagement and then there seems to be a lot of travel of the pedal until final full engagement takes place. I've driven two other XRS's at the dealer just to see if it's consistent, and it is. I think it's just the spring geometry on the pressure plate..it is what it is I guess.

I agree...this is my biggest complaint of the 5 speed. Wonder if the regular Corolla 2ZR is the same way? (I have only driven the auto)

On Corolla XRS , does the RPMs go up when you release the gas and press the clutch too? My 2AZ-FE Camry does that and I find it quite annoying. It's useful for some downshift situations, but overall, I can't say I like it.

Can't say I've noticed that, though I usually rev match when downshifting, which I usually do when I'm braking.

On upshifting though... can't say I've noticed it do that at all.

Almost all the time... I find it quite odd. What's the deal with it doing that?

You're probably just not used to it yet. Release the gas earlier or press the clutch later, you're obviously not doing it quite right, haha.

I tested my own car this evening to be sure, my revs do not rise.
