They brought the prices down last year, and now they bring them right back up again? Is it the because the Canadian dollar lost 25% of its value in the last year?
The car may be assembled in Ontario, but the parts come from Japan, so I guess our dollar has a lot to do with the price.

But now fuel is nearly half the price it was then, so costs should come back down again right?
Toyota saw a chance to put the hurt on their competitors in the small car market and so they enticed us with more a more affordable car while people in general were still in the spending mood when fuel was high. Now the economy has taken dump and we are headed for a depression they let them glide back up because they can and people aren't bent on fuel economy as badly. GM has partially woken up as it struggles to stay alive with its 'competitor' to the corolla (the cobalt) offering it nearly $5-8000less than it was earlier this year in a last ditch effort to win consumers. Unfortunatley people realize the economy is in the pooper now and nearly everyone is hanging on to the car, buying second hand, and only a very few are getting a new cobalt. I can't believe I actually saw Chrysler selling cars with 84month financing and huge $5-8000 rebates yesterday! You can't polish a turd though

Gezuz. How quickly people forget a little thing called "FUEL" which has inpacted everything from freight to the coffee the driver buys at Tim Hortons.
Increase was in late summer due to increased cost in transportation costs.
Toyota increased the PDI from $800 to $1,200 for the Corolla way back in the early 2000s (2003?) and hasn't changed since then. I find that ironic esp. since it cost them US$695 to send and prep the Corolla in the US. If the shipping cost is the same, that probably means the labour is super cheap in the US to prep the car.
