Corolla 2009 targeting young drivers?

Hello I am 27 old and soon 28,the old Corollas used to be related to the group of 40 to 50 years old people(even mainly women) but the new 2009 Corolla seems to be have a more sporty and young look SO! I want to know if this car is not too old for my age group of 25-35 years and if young dudes like me bought it in this forum

IMO, the 2009 corolla doesnt have much sporty to is as it should! in fact the 2009 corolla xrs is much slower and more boring than the 2005-2006 xrs. It looks and feels like a camry and has a different engine!

test drive a 2005 corolla xrs ( make sure to rev throught the whole rpms range) and test drive a 2009 xrs... you will understand what I mean....

in my opinions the 2009 corolla is aimed at the 25-40 group hehe and the 2005-2006 xrs at the 18-30ish group

search youtube, there are many review vids

Ya they changed the engine in the XRS... but I like the '09 xrs engine. No Premium Fuel, and about 30 more lbs of torque... I'll take torque over HP anyday. Especially since I don't go to the track.
So in response to the original question.. YES, they have lowered the targeted demographic to about 20-40. And not everyone is obsessed with High Revving Engines. And the 2005/2006 XRS couldn't be aimed at that age group since it Costs sooo damn much. the 05-06 XRS was easily an extra 2-4k more than the 09 XRS. So i'd say the 05 XRS was aimed at 26-40 yr olds who could afford it.

Its all about image. I know what you mean when you say that the Corolla use to be a old ladies car, go back 2 or 3 generations younger people were buying Honda Civics. ( like I did ) The 10th generation was made to please everyone.

tq doesnt win races, hp does, I have vids that prove this... but I know what you mean! a little more tq for city driving isnt bad at all

my 03 mxrs was much less $$,$$$ that the 09 mxrs... so taking your numbers into consideration im guessing it depends on where you live...? yes! I did get it brand new in 2002 with 10 miles

Oh ya HP will win.... but i dont race anymore so TQ is my new friend. Here in Ontario, Canada the 9th Gen xrs models were a few extra thousand compared to the 10th Gen.

Canada

Despite this turning into a HP vs TQ answer which is NOT what the OP asked here's my position.

I *hated* everything about the 9th gen corolla, i really disliked it from it's interior to it's exterior. Despite the corolla's great track record i couldn't bring myself to buy it.

This year's model, for the most part, i like. If they didn't offer it with the 2.4l camry engine then i woudln't have bought it. The 1.8l makes me feel sorry for it and that i need to get out and push it along when i go over bridges.

That combined with the track record and the safety features not offered on other makes of imports in the same price range made me lean towards it.

It would have been nice to get different packages for the XRS in Canada but you take what you can get.

I think it offers a lot to the 25-30 age range because it's a car that looks nice for now but has the functionality that will be usable when you get into the "family" age range (which it should easily last into).

We all know it's not a speed daemon but it works for those of us who want a long term mix of functionlity and looks.

I'm 26...and let me put it this way. The 2008 and previous Corolla's did not factor into my car research at all. I disliked them as a choice for me. I thought they were a brilliant car with a great reputation...but not for me. That changed with the release of the 2009 which I gradually warmed to.

I was actually more interested with the Matrix but I sat in one and immediately hated the interior whereas the Corolla's interior I thought was quite nice. The kicker was when I test drove a 09 XRS...and it immediately ended up near the top of my list.

So I'm young...and I drive a Corolla and I have a few friends of similar age that have seen my car and become quite interested in it. Maybe we're weird...but I think appealing as a younger persons car the Corolla is at least a choice now whereas before it really wasn't one.

Actually I've had a few people get really surprised and say "Thats a Corolla?!?!" They thought it was Honda or Mazda or something else. So I think Toyota did right by the Corolla...I kind of hope they keep it up. The styling isn't perfect yet in my mind but its getting allot better.

I always get people that are surprised to find out its a corolla! This new rolla is definitely targeted towards a younger demographic!! It is defniitely alot better looking, no doubt about it!

Toyota is certainly trying to attract first time buyers with the Yaris and updated Corolla.

I would'nt say the Corolla audience is "younger", just expanded. I still feel like my xle's lack of a body kit makes it fit the old demographic stereotype.

My dad bought this Corolla S for me and I argue with him in the start that I wanted Civic but he showed me the Newly redesigned Corolla and I liked it.

When I was shopping for cars I told my father that unless the corolla was the 2009 version I would never get the Corolla. I'm 20 and I don't think of it as an old lady car but rather a good first car to own. I got the LE model and I'm happy with it. I haven't had anyone I know dislike this version of the corolla. But in the past I absolutely despised the older model Corollas. The new Corolla is marketed towards a younger audience, but for most people the corolla is nothing but an econobox that will get good milage. So I believe the 09 is marketed towards several age groups.

Im 18 and im paying for my own corolla. When i was looking to buy a car i wasn't thinking about buying the corolla because i dont like the older model. I went to nissan to buy a sentra but for some reason i didnt like it and the nissan delear had one of the new corollas there and i wanted to see what the S model looked like so i went to Toyota and i liked the way the car looked so i test drove it and took it home with me. Ofcourse my parents cosigned for me but for a first time new car its GREAT! I've had alot of people ask what my car is like other people have been asked here and they would get surprised when i would say its a Corolla. It feels good when they say that
