EPS steering makes drving on snow harder

The new EPS system really sucks.. it just doesn't tell you what the front wheels are doing and which side is loosing traction so I can modulate the thorottle accordingly and by doing so you will lesser the chance killing the differential and wet clutches inside the transimmision.
I don't want to fry my transmission by spinning on loose serface like iamEric did it in march and break the transmission and experience rough shift afterward.

^^ what? Exactly how fast your wheels have to be spinning before you break the differential? And how on earth can't you hear your wheel spinning - unless the radio is maxed out.

EPS is fine - just feels different...and will become the new standard on cars due to ease of repair and maintenance. I have no issues with mine after the first few days of use. All other cars feel like I'm driving a go-cart.

Well at least at low traction and poor road surface. The spin itself doesn't kill your transmission but the sudden grab when the wheel get the traction. I know you drive a stick shift so the manual transaxle is pretty robust (particulary with toyota) but the automatic transmission is very complex and fragile in nature so If anybody live in a snow belt area, should try to get the wheel spin as less as possible.

There are already forum on the internet that talk about excessive wheel spin in snow condition could shear off the differential pin. I know very few incident happen with a Toyota transaxle but still. Good car care goes a long way.

no wonder they put traction control standard on 09 vibe

I watch my tach when I drive and it has always told me when a tire broke loose. I find the EPS system to be very similar to hydraulic in terms of feedback, but EPS is more precise with no lag.

You have got to be revving the crap out of your tires/engine to have it switch gears while spinning on slippery surface in an auto. Yikes.

Canada

Winter Tires + EPS = No problem in the snow...

I actually had some fun today whipping around an empty lot just to get the feel for my car in the snow.

Very easy to control, and very responsive.
