Canada Corolla S Insurance

I'm 23 (male), have my full G licence. Had my licence for well over 7 years now (G1-G2-G).

Any good insurance companies? Right now I'm debating between BelairDirect and AllState.

Just wondering if you guys have any recommendations based on quality of the company and monthly rates...

Ya i was in the same boat as you... I was with Wawanessa and they were raping me with my XRS with $317 per month... I now moved to State Farm and am paying $170 a month. If you are under 25 yrs State Farm has this plan where you can fill out this "self-assessment" on your driving, I think it is called "Drive-Safe" or "Smart Drive" and iyou do it for like 10 drives... anyways it gives you an additional 10% off your premium. I also did a packaged deal with them which is a Renters Plan, which allows me to get an additional discount.

But State Farm is pretty good. I have no complaints with them.

you really have to shop around because there is significant variation in prices based on each insurance company's history with a particular model

for example in my case when I was shopping around, the highest quote was 900$ (SSQ Assurances Générales) and lowest cost were $550 (desjardins), ($560 TD insurances) and $514 (La Capitale) for a 2009 Corolla CE

All those prices also vary depending on the deductible you are willing to accept (usually $250 or $500), the number of years for the full-value replacement (2,3,4,5 years) etc.

ah yeah your age and history also are the most determining factors. Typically the price drop significantly once you are past 25 year old and even more after 30 yr and no history of claims

belairdirect
is offering me $161/month $500/300 collision/comprehensive deductibles.

allstate is offering me $213/month $500/300 collision/comprehensive deductibles.

statefarm is offering me $235/month $500/300 collision/comprehensive deductibles.

i have the Corolla S. no accidents or anything of that sort with my driving history.

It sounds like Belairdirect has the lowest deal but it sounds too high and I think you can still get a better deal. Did you check TD insurances? they have an on-line estimation tool.

I remember when I was at your age, my insurance for a brand new Corolla 1996 back then used to be about $1000 per year for a DX model.

But with Belairdirect, your quote is almost $2000 per year, that sounds excessive (where do you live? that is also a factor)

As a comparison, for my 2009 Corolla CE, I am now paying around $514+ tax PER YEAR with full replacement for 4 years and $250 deductible and I am past 30 years old with one claim two years ago for an accident I was not responsible. I have a hard time imagining why someone with no accident history will have to pay almost four times as much base only on age?! maybe double the price at most, that makes more sense

I'm in St. Catharines, ON.

I did look at TD, and they were far too expensive for me.

TD is offering me $232/month $1000/500 collision/comprehensive deductibles.

I'm also leasing the car too, not purchasing. That plays a quite the factor too.

I went to TD insurances website and did some simulations:

I was totally shocked to see that LOCATION is the major factor for the price!

Entered the following data:
- Corolla 2009 S, value approximatively $25k CDN
- Vehicle is purchased
- Male driver, born in 1985, driving permit for 7 years, no accident, claims or traffic violations
- has had insurance on a previous vehile for 1 year

Results:
- living in Montreal, the quote was $110 per month
- living in Toronto, the quote was $230 per month

I don't know how insurance in Ontario works but maybe someone can confirm that it costs more to insure if you live in Ontario (Toronto greater area?)

shitty eh? hahaha

i dunno, actually my sister who's 26, 2009 mazda3 pays $180 who lives in the GTA, whereas im going to be paying the same for the 2009 Corolla S, and im 23 but live outside the GTA.

i was rather shocked when she told me how much shes paying.

i'm not sure how insurance works generally or in ontario.

Yeah if you live and commute to/from the Toronto area, it will cost more. My insurance for smart (about the same price as a CE Pkg "C") and commuting within Oakville (7km only!) $500 ded. for both collision/comprehensive and I'm dinged $197/mth!! Clean record (no tickets, no accidents), driving for 8 years.
