Long time visitor, first time poster. I just got a 2009 Corolla S back in October. Everything is great so far. Until last weekend when I was driving uphill on the streets of San Francisco where I noticed there's a distinct burnt rubber smell coming from the right rear wheel.
Did anybody have this issue after driving on a steep climb? My first oil change is coming up soon and I'll mention this for sure with my dealership. I checked the web and the forums here and nobody have seem to mention it yet. I have an auto transmission by the way.

Any help would be appreciated.
It could be numerous things. Could be spinning tires which weren't gripping...
or it could be that your Parking Brake was on/stuck on.
I would guess parking brake also or more specifically perhaps one brake side is set tighter than the other. Mention it at your dealership oil change and they should set them correctly for you if that is the case.

Small chance it could also be road debris caught against something that heats up. I had a friend that caught a plastic bag underneith her dodge neon, it was terrible to ride in for months.

I'll definitely take a look on this, thanks.

Hehehe sorry if I was not clear enough. The smells comes out right after I drove and parked the car. If I drive normally, there's no smell at all. Only when I drive uphill or when I drive aggressively.
Does the muffler heat up real high after revving the engine for too long? I'm guessing the muffler might have something to do with that rubbery smell since its close to the tire.
It could debris that touched the muffler, and it can happen even if debris touches a hot engine. One time I ran over a sheet of plastic blowing aroun on the strret and it went under the engine. I smelled burning plastic for several hours.
It could also be an external smell from somewhere else. Another time I was driving my car along and every time I stopped at a stop sign or red light I heard sqeeking. This went on for 10 minutes, until I discovered that it was the car behind me sqeeeking all the way down the road behind me. So the smell could possibly be from another car.

Tried another climb on a nearby hill and low and behold the smell came out again but this time its less prominent. And yes, I parked to the side after the climb to check. So it is not from another car.

Yups I did check on the four tires and it is still comming from the rear right tire to my relief.
I've done a preliminary check on any debris that might got caught with the tire but so far I found none.
I guess I'll just leave it to the dealership to figure it out once I get my first oil change. I'll keep everyone posted. I just hope somebody could duplicate what I'm experiencing. Thanks for the help.
It shoudn't be a burnt rubber smell, more like rotten eggs, or like someone had a really creamy fart.
Its your catalytic converter sorting out the mess that is an underpowered vehicle lugging itself up a hill or to a high speed very quickly. Nothing to worry about.
