I would look for:
- Damage of ANY kind...under the car, body, interior, scratches of any kind, functioning lights electrical. Don't be afraid to take your time. You paid for a perfect looking car, it should be. The more you show you are serious the less likely they are to jerk you around.
- Check all fluids, trans(if auto), engine, brake everything and make sure you are topped up, so can have a reference point for future.
*Ask questions as you are looking, it helps you be informed, it keeps them on their toes and helps time pass for them.

Congratulations. If you don't know already, check the mileage. Mine was off the truck, and in my opinion had too many kilometres from dealership. They lied about it, I even asked where they gas fill up and knew right away the distance wasn't adding up between PDI and my pickup. Ended up getting 4 oil changes out of it but was still pissed off . Im anal about stuff like that because if someone's driving your car and hitting the brakes hard etc, who pays for the early pad replacement etc, guaranteed not them, so I came down hard on them for it. They shouldn't need to put on more than 4 or 5 km while in their care, IMO.

12km is the most they should put on it. My cousin's dealership has the techs do a 6km drive in each car to listen for rattles, sqeeks, or anything that shouldn't be happening. I am sure other dealers do this too. I don't mind the techs doing test drives for quality assurance. If it is a special order car, no one but the techs drive it. If you are buying a Lot-Sitter then it may have more due to test drives.

This is of course special order cars that i am talking about with the test drives.

I would also make sure the car has all the features you were looking for. I've heard of stories of the dealership saying a particular car has this feature and that feature and then down the road end up not having that feature at all.

Well features is easy...the Corolla S is either the S or the S plus a sunroof (unless its different in the US) and auto or manual. So everything is laid out on the website and in the brochure. The salespeople I think do their best but if you had to memorize the entire feature list of the entire lineup of Toyota vehicles I can guarantee you'll get something wrong...so will they. So just know what the features are. Its all documented.

Definitely take your time and do your own visual inspection. I didn't spend too much time but actually my salesman did this with me and we looked at everything before we did the final bits of paper work.

Yeah don't be shy look at everything your mind comes up with.. push all the buttons you see and if you don't know then ask and then push and see if it works.. (doesn't apply to Batmobile cuz of selfdestruct button and maybe president's car no.1 cuz it might have "the Red Button" in it..)

I would wait, if possible, til the morning to pick up the car. When I purchased my car, I came back the next morning just because there are so many things you can overlook if you are sitting in a parking lot at night looking for flaws.
