under the hood?

Every car I've owned prior to my new Corolla S had a protective cover underneath the hood to protect from oil sprays and whatnot. My new Corolla, however, does not have this. Should it? There are obviously attachment holes under the hood as if one were supposed to be there... so I'm wondering if mine was removed at some point or if they just simply don't come with one.

At least for the US spec cars, it only comes on the Xrs.

You are thinking of the valve cover, from the description of the OP, it sounds like the hood liner. I remember in a post a while back jeff lange said this was only on the Xrs.

yeah mine doesn't have it either, i have an S and im in canada, and the car was made in canada. my other 99 corolla does have it (it looks like flat insulation), though I did notice there is a seal around where the hood closes where as the older one doesnt have that.

if your car is spraying oil under the hood...you have more problems than just a missing hoodliner.

many cars have hoodliners in case of a fire. the clips that hold the liner in are plastic and will melt in a fire thus lowering the hoodliner and hopefully smother the fire in hopes of putting it out.

people also put hoodliners for sound deadening and as a thermal barrier.

if you really want one, they make universal kits out there, you can just purchase one of those. I know dynamat has a universal kit.

The XRS is equipped with a hood liner and an undercover between the bumper cover and the lower rad support. No other models are.

my car is brand new (20 miles ODO) and not spraying anything. I was just curious as to whether or not it was supposed to have a liner. It doesn't bother me that I don't have one... just wanted to be sure. I am, however, ordering a rear bumper protective sticker. On my tC this actually came in handy the first week I owned the car... had to get a couple bricks from Home Depot and one of them broke when I took it out of the trunk (hatch) and fell on the bumper. It scratched the sticker up pretty good but left the bumper intact for the most part. So far I'm very impressed with all the features. The only thing I don't like (a very minor deal) is that there are no micro controls for the wipers, only standard speed settings. No big deal but the "mist" setting on my tC was nice in this area since we get a lot of fog and very light rain. My dealer even showed me the "valet trunk lock" which apparently is on a LOT of Toyota cars. I never knew that even existed but it makes a lot of sense! haha

Did anyone purchase their Corolla with the new protective shielding that's being offered? I can't remember the name but it's some sort of "super wax" that's guaranteed for 5 years and protects the surface of the car from bugs, birds, acid, leaves, etc. and the interior cloth from spills and whatnot. I'm supposed to be getting that put on next week but wanted to know if it's actually worth the extra money. It sounded like a pretty good deal... kind of like Zebart only for the exterior and upholstery instead of the inner shell of the car.

Yes I have purchased it with conjunction with the interior protection scotch guard/ replacement upholstery guarantee. The paint protection has nothing to do with the "special" wax they apply. What it really does is gives you a paint warranty that the paint wont flake off in a month and if it does they have to fix it. Plus they give you a kit to clean your car as well which is not the best stuff out there but hey its free.

I might be talking about something different... found the brochure and it's called ResistAll (paint sealant and fabric sealant) and takes about 8 hours to put on and 10 hours to cure (at least that's what my dealer told me).

Here's the link: http://www.ctpc.com/Professional/pro1.asp

Yeah its the same thing; As I understood it it added to the manufacturer warranty for paint protection but I could be wrong. I was more concerned about the interior fabric protection.

True... the interior is my main concern as well. Cleaning the interior of a car is a hassle by itself and using abrasive fabric cleaners works wonders but also does a number on the fabric over time. If I can limit the need for interior cleaning that would be great! So are you saying that this protection to the interior works well?

Hey we didn't get that cuz thought it's a waste.. Are you telling that if our car's paint starts chipping off then we're not covered by waranty?

Interior is not that hard to clean! and no protestion will save any cloth from aging IMO.. except oil paint if kept in museum conditions..

That's shame that they offer that lining as an only XRS thing.. it should be for everyone.. it's part of a safety.. right?

paint chipping/flaking should be covered under the standard warranty... that would be considered a manufacturer defect as long as it's not the result of road debris or your neighbor's kid. This "ResistAll" doesn't have anything to do with chipping or flaking. It's supposed to protect against stains and fading... like if a bird craps on your car and you either don't see it or forget to clean it off quickly and it leaves a stain or when you get that nasty bug juice on your car that hardens to the density of titanium. lol

I have no clue what those bugs are made of but I have a couple spots on my tC that I can't get cleaned off to save my life! I've tried everything Wal-Mart and AutoZone has to offer to get that stuff removed and nothing seems to work. I'm certain an abrasive will do the trick but I don't really want to risk scratching the car.

And yes... interior IS difficult to clean if you own 2 dogs and 2 cats. :P Doesn't matter how many lint rollers you go through, the hair manages to find its way to your car and embed itself in the upholstery threads.

have u tried using a clay bar? if that doesn't take it off, then you might have to go to something abrasive. but im sure the clay bar will take it off, unless you have had it there for a VERY VERY long time
