I was listening to a TV program called "RPM" on TQS, french TV station here in Quebec, and the were talking about the 2009 Corolla. Every week, they evaluate different cars.
They didn't like the interior of the Corolla. They found it dull compared to the Civic.
They also complained about the suspension being too soft.
They found that the basic Corolla doesn't brake fast enough. Instead of stopping at 40 meters or less, it stopped at 42 meters, at 100 km/h.
They weren't impressed by the 10th generation exterior look, saying it looks like a small Carmy. Not that it isn't nice, but they found that Toyota lacked imagination.
Finally, they said that the Corolla didn't measure up to the Civic, nor the Sentra.....
To each his/her own! I loved the Mazda 3, but still went w/ the Corolla. Their all in the same basket, apples to apples! There were people out there saying Enron was good stock buy too!

Most of these issues can be easily modified by a motivated owner. Did they mention anything about the repair records of either the Civic or the Sentra? I would much rather drive a car that I know I can flip the odometer twice and the only thing I have to replace are the tubes and tires.
This is how I see it. The reason why I did not buy a Honda Civic was that it was in in its 4th year of production and will be changed over in two years. I tried the Mazda 3 in its last year of production and I loved the way it drove, much better than a Corolla, but it will be changed over in a few months. I bought the Corolla bacause it has a good reputation for reliability and resale value. I did not go wrong buying a Corolla.

Well it's dull cause it looks like a baby Camry! For me, that works well. All I'm giving up by getting a Corolla is the space of a Camry (and even then, the Corolla is pretty spacious for a compact car). I can see how they like the Civic cause it's more "out there". Besides, where's the Hyunda Elantra? Those sell like hotcakes in Quebec.

there's always going to be people out there that will like or not like this car or that car for whatever reason...you bought the car because you liked it and you should enjoy it. who cares what others say, they obviously have different motives or whatever. my neighbor says my vibe looks like a mini-minivan and my dad says it's ugly but i love it so that's why i got the car lol

I agree... this is why i didnt buy a camry... cause of the 2010 update coming in February or march (2.5l 4cyl with 6 speed auto and EPS as far as i know, plus a facelift) i wanted something fresh. But you hit the nail on the head... you cant go wrong with a toyota.
LOL Every "expert"critic has bashed the Corolla this year. I don't know why but it seems silly that they do. The '09 Rolla is fine. Did they mention that it has the best fuel economy in its class? Probably not. All critics are band wagon jumpers. If it isn't popular with the Tuner Crowd then it isn't a good car in their books.
The Civic interior is the reason I didn't buy one. Why would I want to drive something with a Digital Speedometer? I'm not 65 yrs old and dont need Billboard Font sizes to know my speed.
Mazda3 handles nice, but i have my reasons against Mazda and won't go into detail. Didn't like the packages/features.
Sentra isn't anything special unless you talk about the SE-R... otherwise the base Sentra reminds me of the Echo
But everyone has their own opinion... and as an Ontarian I don't agree with the Quebec Critics here... Go figure eh.. LOL

Plus the SE version of the Camry is getting factory sport pedals, an option of a back up camera. Also coming in a new color Dark Metallic Green. <-----that just looks GREAT!
hey i missed dark green on the camry... i liked the shade they had in 1999, 2000 and 2001. any place to see a picture of this? not to go on a tangent but i'm thinking its a mistake for the camry to go EPS

Obviously, how each one of us likes a particular car is very subjective. However, let me just say this, as a 2008 Civic LX 4 door owner, I am selling that car to get a 2009 Corolla S. This decision came after a roundtrip drive between the San Francisco Bay Area and Reno in my mom's Corolla S. Yes, I will lose some money on the Civic but in the long run, the 2009 Corolla S will be a better buy....for me at least.
