Did you defect from the big three, over to Corolla?
My primary car is a forein car, I need it to take clients around. I have always had a GM car as a second or third car in the family. I have to say that I have never been so enthusiastic about a second or a third car in my life. The Corolla is realy something. I resisted buying a Japanese car for a long time, but my wife made the choice for us andI am glad sh did. I would like to know how many of you have defected from the big three, or have you previously had a Corolla or a Japanese car?

I did'nt even consider a US made car.
I have a 2002 Dodge caravan. Paid full price for it and a year later they had staff price sale. Could'nt even get a decent price in a trade in. I still have it.
This is my first "foreign" car, although its the first not built in Mexico...
I prefer the simplicity of servicing a domestic, but they currently have little in the compact or sub-compact market. I loved the SRT4, but the caliber is too large. GM's Ecotech is impresive, but the styling of the Cobalt is not my thing. Ford will not have anything appealing till 2011 at the earliest it seems.
However, I needed something for a 30,000mi/yr work commute. I could honestly care less about the nameplate. People need cars, cars need to be built, car companies will employ people in the states, regardless of the brand.
Although I will likely always keep at least one Mustang or Wrangler in the garage.
I was a GM faithful. Had a 94 Vette, 69 Camaro..... Only foreign car I had previously owned was a BMW e30..a totally rock solid car(The alternator went out on me... I pulled it and it was the original at 248K miles!), so I wasn't afraid avioding of them, Japansese car's didn't appeal at first
I got the Corolla for my wife when her 2000 malibu fell to pieces....and now....well, look at my sig!

Snake- Just noticed the sig pic. My man, you do have the best of the 2 cars....but the wife can be proud of the S- They are both kick-ass!
I went thru the Camaro IROC-Z and Trans Am GTA phase in the late 80's and early 90's. Best lookin and performance cars I ever had (besides a 69 GTO!) Too bad they were in the service garage more than my garage. Later went with a Dodge Ramcharger to pull the boat, finally got rid of that when it almost killed me by stalling out on the freeway, just in time to lose the power brakes and almost smashed a dump truck...thank God the berm and shoulder was clear for me to roll to a safe stop.(You ever have sweat gush down your ass crack?)
I could rant for hours on my dealings with Chevy, Pontiac and Dodge service managers. I will just say in 2000 I went with a 4Runner to pull the boat. Never a problem. I upgraded to the Tundra in '07'...never a problem. Got the XRS for a daily driver in April/ May, again, not one issue. You pay for Looks, Performance and some other considerations.
Peace of Mind Reliability: Priceless

When I was looking for a small car that got great MPG there were only two real competitors - the Civic and Corolla. I liked how the Civic drove and its responsiveness but the price and options did not sit well with me. I went with the Corolla because of the great deal i got, the options, and the full service that came with the car through my local dealership (free oil changes, lifetime engine warranty, car washes, lifetime warranty on parts). This is the second Toyota I bought in less than two years and I am very satisfied.

Now we are looking at either a Venza or Highlander to replace the Tundra. We no longer need a big monster truck like that.
When I was looking for my next car, the Big Three didnt have anything to offer in the small/midsize car class. All they are really good at selling SUVs and trucks. The big selling point for the Corolla was the mpg that beat the sentra and the Corolla offered way more accessories at the civic's base price. So the Corolla was the way to go.
From the time I could afford my first vehicle I always drove a "foreign" model. When expecting our third child, my wife really wanted a Dodge Grand Caravan, so I agreed. It was the first domestic we drove and a huge mistake; very poor reliability, quality, fuel mileage. I was never a fan of the Detroit Three (no longer Big Three) to begin with, as my father always had problems with Fords and GMs. Needless to say, I was glad to sit my rear end in the seat of a new Corolla. We tried to trade-in the Caravan when purchasing the Corolla, but no dealer would take it. And as for selling it, we would have had to give it away. Since that time, an oxygen and speed sensor quit on it. So it's gonna sit for the winter.
