Can I change the shift-activated door unlocking feature on 2009 Corolla LE?

Hi all,

This is my first post, and I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I have a 2009 Corolla LE with the keyless entry, and there's this one feature on my car that I don't like and I'm hoping there's a way to change it. I think it's called shift-activated door locking/unlocking - when I park my car and shift it to "park", the doors automatically unlock themselves. I'd prefer that my doors stay locked until I physically unlock them myself. Is there any way to turn this feature off? Is it correlated to the feature that automatically locks my doors when I shift my car out of "park" when I first start the car? Because I actually do like that feature!

I looked through my manual and I must admit that I'm a bit confused as to which features I can turn on and off myself and which features I need to have a technician alter for me at a dealership. Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Door Lock Settings

On an off note, does your LE have push button start?

Momaru - Thank you so much for the link - I had searched for "shift activated door lock" but I think my wording was too specific and I didn't find that thread. I'm going to go attempt to change the setting, and I'll report back.

My car doesn't have a push button start, just the keyless entry.

Ugh I can't get it to work - I just sent my husband out there, hopefully he can figure it out. I find it so odd that this is a default setting on the car.

ETA: Okay, he got it to stay locked when I put it into "park". But now he's not sure if the feature I did like, the one where it automatically locks the doors when I put the car into "drive" or "reverse" after getting into the car, is still on. Yikes! He said he thinks the 2 are mutually exclusive of each other, so he's trying to figure it out now.

Thanks again for the info!

I think I figured it out.
Leaving the car in park
1. turn the car on (without turning on the engine)
- be sure your seat belt is off
2. after hearing the first "ding" from not having your seat belt on quickly press unlock and hold it
3. release the unlock button after the last ding its either the four or fith ding

If you want to undo this just repeat again.
If you have made your car to lock at 20km (i have still yet to figure this out) hold down the lock button instead in step 2

So my husband was able to figure it all out, and now my car stays locked when I park it and automatically locks when I first turn it on and put it into gear.

Thank you guys again for the help, I really appreciate it and I feel much safer now.
