Can I swap out my 2009 corolla S 6cd changer with a JBL unit out of a 2009 corolla S that a friend totaled hitting a deer.

Yes you can, but I believe that there would be no benefit besides the fact that it will say jbl on it.

If you do install it dont worry if you have one socket left over. That part is for the a jbl sound system and if you don't have it, it will not need any plugs.

Are you planning to change the whole system or just the head unit?

Also, how exactly did your friend total a brand new car hitting a deer? I hit one at 50mph and only racked up about 4,000 in damages. Also if its totaled and in the possession in the insurance company, I doubt you would be able to change electronic components.

I believe the JBL system has more wattage than the generic factory system. Don't think you can just switch out the changer. It would be an entire unit replacement.

I'm pretty sure that the JBL system has a separate amplifier which is mounted beneath the front passenger seat. The JBL head-unit would not be able to power the speaker without the amplifier.

Yes the JBL system is quite a bit more than just the head unit, it has the separate amplifier, as well as the bluetooth features (not sure if you care about this), but if you wanted everything to function correctly, you'd need to change out a lot of stuff, including the dash harness if I'm not mistaken.
