abs fuse

Hi guys,

I have been having to drive off-road a lot and have suffered from really horrible stopping distances. I would like to pull the ABS fuse (there are 2, 50 amps and 30 amps). However, in the fuse box they seem to be segregated and covered by a seperate cover that I cannot remove.

Is this the type C or type D fuse that Toyota says you should not touch. Can anyone please offer some insight into this?

Thank You!
Vitali

Hi Vitali, which model is this?

These high amp fuses are usually secured with a 10mm and 8mm bolt inside the fuse box, you'll need to remove the cover of the fuse box to get to them.

Thanks Daifai,

I have the CE. I will look for the bolts, it was dark last night and I couldn't find anything with the flashlight.

I will let you know how it works out...

Thanks for your help!

Just letting you know, the ABS speed sensors also provide the speed signal to the engine ECU and speedometer, as well as the electric power steering computer. Not sure what pulling the ABS fuse would do to the rest of the vehicle. Chances are your speedometer would no longer function, and you'll probably have funky things happening with steering assist.

Not 100% sure though, because there are 3 power sources to the ABS ECU, 1 from the ABS No.1 fusible link, one from the ABS No.3 fusible link and one from the ECU-IG No.1 fuse, so who knows, the power from ECU-IG may allow the speed signal to still get generated.

Thanks Jeff, thats great info.

By the way, with these newer cars, pulling the fuse for a day or two won't screw any systems once it's back in, will it?

The engine MIL and the ABS light will stay on after you put the fuse back in, you'll need a scaner to clear the codes. The EPS should work fine, but there will be a communication problems between the system ECMs.
By pulling the ABS fuses, you might be losing Electrionic Brake force Distribution & Brake Assist at the same time. EBD controls the front rear bias of the brake force, so i don't know if it's going to help you when you go off roading.

I know you can pull the wiring harness from the ABS pump, but the "BRAKE", powersteering, and ABS lights go on. Does anyone know whitch wire it is in the harness to the ABS pump?
