Windshield has crack

So last night i went to the movies and i was driving in the freeway. There was this 18 wheeler that i was trying to pass but there was no open space for my car to fit in the next lane and so i waited for a good minute and his tire flicks a rock at my window and now my windshield has two cracks. I will post pics later on today. Anyone know the costs of windshield repairs?

you gotta take it to the windshield repair shop asap...the bigger the crack, the more expensive and the harder to repair it. I got two rock chips in the first 2 days of driving my new rolla...I took it to the shop about $30 CAD to fill it. But crack is gonna be more in $.

There is a new product in the market now, I installed it on my windshield already, it is like a 3M protect on top of the windshield. It will avoid chips and cracks due to impact by rocks. And it is prefectly clear, block UV from sun and can with stand ice scraper as well. it costs me about $200 CAD. It is not a life time thingy, you will have to replace it when it worn out down the road (but it will last you a long way about once every 100000kms if you don't do a lot of highway driving)

With cracks you are better served to have the glass replaced (please don't kill the messenger) due to the crash resistance specs on strength. e.g. when cutting glass, you etch a line on the surface with a glass cutter and it usually breaks on the line - I did say usually

I'd check with the dealer (yes they are expensive, it's because aftermarket glass is usually distorted garbage by comparison, and also lacks noise insulation, etc.) to get a quote and then check with your insurance company.

Some insurance companies (also depending on the state) offer windshield replacement for this exact reason within their policies. Alot of time it's without the usual deductible.

It stinks when it happens, but think what would happen if the glass wasn't there!! One of the many reasons I don't ride streetbikes anymore.

I paid $440 to have my windshield replace last year. It was expensive because the car just came out.

Hopefully you have at least $100 comprehensive deductible.

Post pics of the damage if you can, so others will be able to assess it more accurately and offer you better answers.

The front glass on a Corolla is more expensive to replace because it is a 3 ply laminate glass instead of 2 ply. They did this to reduce outside noise.

Not sure about the USA (where the OP is), because I know in the parts catalog they do list different windshields, depending, but I know here our acoustic glass is 5-layers, not 3.

The car salesperson will tell you anything to sell you the car.

I was told by the car saleman at the Toyota dealer where I bought my car that the glass was better than on a Honda civic. Thats just another example of how they will take anyone to be a car salesperson and that person will tell you anything to sell you a car whether it is true or not!
