Does anybody hate this from Toyota??

Hello, I have an 09 XRS corolla and its been great. But I noticed to the left of of the steering wheel, there are two plastics that are covering two rectangles. I really hate this from Toyota because my dads truck has like 4 of these and it looks crappy... just want to know if many of you drivers hate this also. The picture shows what I'm talking about. They are under the knobs. Thanks

Those aren't exclusive to Toyotas.
It's part of what makes cars less expensive.
Designed to use in several models or for future options expandability etc.

Yes, and I've found such covers to be quite handy for adding features to cars in a way that makes them look 'factory installed.' For example, I put an AC electric outlet in the dash of our old VW by modifying one of the blank plastic covers and I know some people have used one of the covers in the Corolla & Matrix to add a switch for manually controlling the headlights.

yup i put a switch in one of those retangles to control the auto lights/drl in my vibe. almost all cars have them especially if you get base models since the fully loaded ones might have them filled in for heated seats or whatever other options or features.

Hey I was just giving my opinion about how it bothers ME, not that they are wrong so saying its sillly is going a little too offensive... but I just never thought about them that way...I might look into getting some stuff installed to take advantage of them...

I am thankful those are there the same as in my 4 runner. You can use them for so many things light switches and so on.
