I have some many rattle in this car I could write a book about it.
- Headliner as been removed and insulated - This has solved the rattle.
- Passenger window as been reinstalled rattle is gone but the plastic from the down is sometime noisy a little push on it and it goes away.
On Thursday (March 10th) the car will get to dealer ship for a noise you hear below 0 deg celcius (or 32 F) between in the middle of the dashboard and the windshield. Toyota as a document on this I saw it from the computer on this particular issue. The thing is a little plastic bit that holds the dash to the frame and when cold it makes noise, I think the procedure states to put some foam in that socket and re-install (not sure about all the procedure, ask you dealer). The whole procedure of removing the dash takes up to 2 hours by an experiment guy.
After this I have an other rattle in the seat that is also to be solved. The bolts retaining the seat to the base of the car or somewhat to long and need to be shorten to avoid them rubbing on the frame (bad conception). Document said that noise is supposed to be worse when seat is fully tilt backwark (I mean the portion leg, not the portion where your back is). The noise is very apparent at highway speed between 100kmh-140kmh or during strong acceleration.
Both of the above issue can be found on several other Toyota cars and trucks (Anything from Yaris to Tundra). 2007 Camry where definetly the worse for dash noise and many have been removed and "repair" according to the rattle expert at my dealership.
Two other rattles that need to be check are the ringing noise in the driver seatbelt assembly, something like a loose bolt. And the underdash brake pedal spring making a funning noise when "under tension" (or when braking).
I hope that will be it until my next oil change, Toyata is giving me a rental for the day or day that the repair will take. I never to the garage so often with a car, and this is my first brand new car. Defenitely not happy with that Toyota product. And being the first year of production is not an excuse when similar issue are on going in the Toyota repair documentation as far as 2003-2004.
By the way since two years Toyota is listing foam padding in their parts book. Imagine for solving the rattle.
