I see fins in the waters, are there car salepeople swimming around at TOYOTANATION?
Several times I posted information on how to negociate the best deal when shopping for a car. I told of a few tricks and things to look out for. As well as the best times to get your deal. This info was not welcomed by some people. I suspect that there are car salespeople snooping about at Toyota Nation
Car salesmen don't drive Corollas; they drive G35s and TLs. Therefor this post is safe here.
LOL, in today's market? They have all downgraded to Yaris & City Golf's / Jetta's.
But ya i hear what you're saying about snooping... My cousin is a Sales Manager at Toyota and he reads this Forum sometimes. But he is also a good sales guy. I wouldn't worry about it, its the other guys you have to worry about. besides what are you worried about, you already bought a new car, and salesmen would be dumb to turn down a sale right now.
But my cousin only reads this forum for purpose of finding out what defects are occurring on the new models so when people come back he knows that it is happening on more than just one car.
I see nothing wrong with car salepeople visiting this site or posting informatin or advice. If they start to discredit good advice on negociating for a car because it is not in their best interest, they are trying to sabotage the car buyers efforts. So read carefully, there may be spies amoungst us!
UMMM.... I am a car salesman for toyota and i drive a 10th gen. rolla.... I have been doing this for 4 years now and I know at our dealership these tips and tricks and times of year .... dont meen anything
Every deal is different and I find it dunny how everyone things that we make AMAZING money LOL... working straight commision when everything from yaris, corolla, matrix, camry only has a MAXIMUM of $1,900 grose in it is not fun.
When we have people comming in here asking for $2000 off because of people posting these "how to buy a car tips"

You have been in the Bus. for 4 years. Have the sales "Tanked" in the last bit?
I know that you are telling the truth when you say that the margin for a Camry is $1900. If I tell you that I got $500 off on my 09 Corolla CE with 4 steel rims for my winter tires and body side moldings plus winter tire installation and balancing you will probably tell me that I am a good shopper. I gave some good advice on getting the deal on another thread. I was blasted by a couple of guys that I suspect were car salemen. On said that it is bad advice to go more than once to a dealer to get a deal, your best deal can be done on one visit. Another said that to ask to extras such as the steel rims and body side molding is not a good stategy. I can only guess that they are car sales people thats ant to do the deal TODAY ,and do not want to be choked for extras.

I have never commented on shoppers strategy, but I have seen similar sentiments in "is this a good deal?" threads.
While people should shop around, they should also understand, you can't buy a car at cost. Salespeople, indifferent of what you may think of them, have to make a living as well. Also, I think its ludicrous for people to have this concept they are going to get deep discounts on a brand new econo car, that's what the used lot is for.
One can make car buying as difficult as they would like, but it ultimately comes down to you deciding if a car is worth X amount of dollars.
Car pricing is really no different than any other retail item. The pricing is governed by the rules of supply and demand. Considering the current economic crisis, I would say that the buyer is in the drivers seat, so to speak. Hyundai, has just slashed $4000 off of 4 '09 models. This indicates how much room there is for negotiating. Bottom line, there's nothing wrong with working the best possible deal.
Salesman are a tough lot to figure out. I just bought an 09 CE, and paid cash. I would have bought another Civic in a heartbeat, but neither salesman from the two dealers I went to called me after promising me to. I ended up with a Toyota, simply because the salesman was very good. I really didn't care which on I bought. Another dealership I went to, I spent about 15 minutes cruising the lot looking at models, without one salesman coming out to greet me. I'm out there with my chequebook in hand, I couldn't believe it!
I'm a pretty good judge of character, and I judge salesmen by how much they try to B.S. me. When I go to a dealer, I act like I haven't got a brain in my head, and have sucker written all over me. I ask dumb questions, that I know the answers to of course, and see what responses I get.
Ya i have been in the buisness at the same toyota dealer for about 4 years now, and because of me being in buisness for aslong as i have. this economic crisis stuff has not affected me TOO badly because of the amount of refferals and repeat buisness i get.
But i have DEFFINETLY noticed a difference in the customers, going from asking for NO DISCOUNT at all and yes my whole first year I did not even get asked for a discount. to all of a sudden this year so far I have been asked for up to $5,000 off on a yaris. I understand people want the best deal but what people also have to understand at my dealership anything that i sell from a yaris up to a FULL LOAD matrix and corolla XRS i make $175.00 selling them at FULL POP so any money taken off on the price is hurting ALOT.
just keep in mind people, YA you want the best deal but there is people like me working STRAIGHT commision that is making $0 pay cheques because of it...... and i dono about you guys but do you really wan toyota to end up like chrylser.......

Thanks for responding. I will not doubt what you stated $175.Cdn a Pop, though I am surprised.
If you could support that with a Genuine Invoice breakdown so to speak{open the Dealers Cost Book} I'd bet that the potential customers would sit down and Deal.
Most people feel that they get Fleeced by Dealers/Salesman by getting Stiffed w/$800.00+ for Rustproofing that costs about $20.00 of actual product. Paying an Administration Fee of $400.00+ for Darkening Your Doorstep to Buy a Car?!?
Wonderboy you may very well be a Fair Player and Straight Shooter yet there are some downright Sleeze Balls out there who are making a Shambles of All Dealers Reputations.
Unless these types are Turfed, the Mistrust Will Remain.
I know for a fact that many other industries check on large forums to get a general sense of problems and opinions about their products. They get knowledge from customers that usually know what they are talking about, because frankly dumb customers never go looking for solutions, except maybe to the dealer. They can find more consistant issues here than if they waited to gather the stats at their dealerships.
