Your Advice on Corolla 09 S Swap

Hey guys, I have been thinking about trading in my 2009 Corolla S, for either a 2010 XRS or a 09/10 WRX. I know the price difference is around 4K. I have my dealer quote of 24k for the WRX. What would be the best choice money wise
-insurance 4.5k for corolla vs 5k WRX
-gas 22/30 vs 19/25

Is the WRX worth the cost if I can supercharge a 2010 XRS? My friend Kevin owned a WRX and said they are amazing to drive. I have nothing bad to say about my corolla except its really slow. Any thoughts are appreciated!

If you got the cash, and want more power vs fuel economy....get the WRX!

I wanted that over the xrs but since I'm commuting, xrs was good enough

The wrx is a big difference from the xrs I think about 100hp difference (+/- some).

But insurance will be higher and premium gas is a must.
Overall though if you have the cash then go for the wrx...supercharged xrs would be too much work and not worth it imo.

if you have cash to burn, go for it. it will cost you in:
-gas (not only premium gas but worse mileage)
-insurance
-trade loss will be a killer. trading in a one year old car an amazingly bad financial decision.
so , that swap to an xrs or wrx is going to cost ALOT more than 4k.

"I have nothing bad to say about my corolla except its really slow. Any thoughts are appreciated!"

you knew that when you bought it, no? picture things a year from now when your premium gas is $4.35/gallon and your heavy footin that wrx to 20 mpg's.

Definitely get the WRX. It's an entirely different animal!

The new one's perform so well, they might as well be considered an STi for much less money.

if it's worth it to you to get a car that's actually fast, then get it; otherwise financially, i'd stay put at least in the first year, since the car depreciates the most in that period.

From a fun stand point, buying an WRX would be great.

From a financial standpoint, buying a brand new car, owning if for less than a year, trading it in to a dealer, and buying another brand new car is one of the worst things you could do.

$4.5k a year to insure your Corolla? Wow, you must have an interesting record.

I doubt its that high, but my dad says its for the fullest coverage. I saw it a little ago and it was around 2900. No accidents, No tickets 18 year old heh.
I might wait the year or two then until trading it in.

Buddy 97 - I thought it was fast since I had not been driving for about a month and commuting with a friend to college. So after not being behind the wheel it seemed semi - fast.

I would be losing a little since I am getting $0 for the car even though I don't owe that much

Get the 2009 WRX265 sedan. Thats the best looking and performing of the bunch imho. I'm not too sure whats different about the 2010 vs 2009 but the 09s are a much better improvement in everything over the 2008 models.

If you are already spending that much on a WRX265, may as well spend a little more for the STI.

umm, the price difference is quite different there gatoradeboy, might as well get a lamborghini Gallardo LP560 at 198000. But seriously, the wrx265 is a more realistic and fun alternative! Thats what I hope i can get assuming i stay employed.

gallardo specs:::
5.2 litre V10 engine with an output of 560 PS (412 kW) at 8000 rpm. T
0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, its speed at 11.8 seconds is 200 km/h and its top speed lies at 325 km/h Despite its clearly increased power, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by a staggering 18 per cent.

Unfortunately, styling has been greatly reduced as well.
PS the Porsche does all that with only a 3.6 liter horizontally opposed 6 cylinder! And it looks hot enough to possibly make an attempt to physically mate with it.

PSS Id much rather have the new nissan GTR than any Italian make (though I admit beggars cant be choosers). not only does it look MUCH better than the gallardo, its FASTER and about one third the price!

Look better? That's where the GT-R is least impressive. Would prefer the exterior of the R34.

The R35's look is starting to grow on me. At first I thought it was hideous.

But in reality, and to answer OP's question:

Quote:
the best choice money wise?
Neither, you have a brand new car. The price difference between your S and a 2010 XRS is far more than 4k, so don't even bother looking at the WRX. Of course, this is financially.

Quote:

Oh yeah. A supercharger would prolly run you a good 3-4k, and bring your bhp up to maybe 200; give or take 10hp. The WRX tops that by a good ~60hp, comes turbo'd from the factory, is AWD, oh and a rally-bred sports car.

So, to summerize...

Responsible path: enjoy your nice, reliable new car for another 2 or three years, then decide what you want to do then.

Fun/rich/don't care path: get the WRX and enjoy.

Any way you look at it:

WRX > Corolla.
