XRS or VW Rabbit

Hello everyone,

I'm planning on putting a down payment on a car by the end of the week and I'm a little torn between the '10 XRS and the '09 VW Rabbit as a daily commuter.

For the XRS owners here, how do you like it? Any problems with the car? Fun to drive?

I test drove the XRS and I really liked it, but I liked both of them, so it's a little difficult!

if ure buying (purchasing) go with the XRS. It costs a lot less to maintain and more reliable in the long run. ( after the 5 years+ mark)

If you're changing cars every 4 years or so then my vote goes to the rabbit since it has bumper2bumper for 4 yrs/80k so who cares if its buggy.

Unless build quality has vastly improved in the past 3 years VW's are dump. Electrical gremlins up the ying yang, and their customer service is rated one of the lowest in the industry.

I have an XRS for a little over a year and it has been serving me very well (save for the downshifting issue I had)! The car has plenty of power, but so do the Rabbit!

I would definitely go test drive both cars and see which one you like better

G'd luck!

i've test drove both the xrs and rabbit and i like both. rabbit has that higher quality feel to it and the plastic doesn't feel as cheap. rabbit seems like it has a smoother ride than the xrs and handles very well with lesser body roll than the xrs. well the 2.5L rabbit felt more powerful at highway speeds and has a nice throaty exhaust tone. i just hate the sound when you first start the car. those 5 cyl cars sound so loud when you first start it but after 30-45 seconds it goes away. but driving wise, the rabbit wins hands down. it just feels more entertaining to drive than the xrs.

i would have chosen the rabbit but i'm still skeptical about their reliability. if you don't care much about the reliability then the rabbit should be a very fun car to drive. but you can't go wrong with the xrs as it should be pretty reliable like all the other toyotas.

Thanks for the help guys. Reliability is my #1 concern about the Rabbit. It looked and drove great, but I'm just graduating and starting out a career, so I have no idea how long I'll be sticking with the same car.

I'll probably go with the XRS, since the Rabbit's reliability is a question mark. On other forums, people generally seem to say "oh yeah, its great! (minus a few small problems that were fixed under warranty)" Makes me wonder about what problems will crop up once they're out of warranty!

The XRS was a blast to drive though, and I really liked it; though I have to admit the Rabbit did have a higher quality look and feel to it. Oh well, trade offs!

The XRS is a bit harsher and not quite as controlled as the Rabbit but factoring in some of the other things like long term reliability, fuel economy (not unless they got a significant boost in fuel economy over the last two years), overall storage capacity with passengers, etc. I quickly made my decision on the XRS.

The XRS a practical car with a bit of sporting and allot of power for a vehicle of its size and class. Plus its nothing to pack four people and a couple of suitcases or some equipment in the car for a roadtrip.

I would go for the Rabbit if you like driving and be very confortable especially if you are over 6 feet tall. And that 6 speed tiptronic transmission is Wow ! But reliability is somewhat incertain. My realestate agent has on jetta with the same engine (2008) and his rear bumper is full of burned oil. You do the math yourself. Intelligent choice is the XRS and Fun choice is the VW. (I agree with the one of you saying that the engine was sounding like crap when started, that as turn me away from the car even if I liked everything more than the Corolla). But I still may get at VW or a used BMW in the year to come. In the trouble free departement my Corolla is no good, the interior as been completely dissamble from top to bottom for rattle and some other stuff under the car too. I my adventure with my car on the forum later on to help the one having the same issue (with rattle). My car is a very good example of a car made on Friday, the director of the dealership is handling the case itself and I have to say I have an A1 service at my local dealership I would not like to do the same with a VW. VW is the worse in the customer service at the same level as Mazda.
