Post your 2009 Corolla issues

I would like to know what issues people have with their 2009 Corolla.

Here is my list (Corolla 2009 CE, manual transmission)

1- metal-to-metal gear grinding noise when accelerating in a sharp turn at temperature below -10C. It seems the noise is coming from the differential or the CV joints. The grinding noise goes away after the car has been driven a while and has warmed up. I intend to bring the car to the dealership next winter so they can reproduce the problem and fix it.

2- when braking the car to a full stop, the RPM momentarily drops to about 300 RPM for a second or two, causing the engine to shake. This is quite annonying and happens more in colder temperatures.

3- Rattles: miscellaneous rattles in the dash, pillars, glove box, doors, center console at various RPM and various road surfaces. I discovered that the ice and snow can get in the space between the trunk lid and the rear windshield causing a nasty vibration when driving. It is the same noise as if you take a piece of ice and tap it agains the windshield. Therefore I always sweep that space to get rid of the ice and snow before driving.

4- not really issues but I hate the Electric Power Steering that makes the car wander left and right at highway speed. If yoiu take your hands off the steering wheel, the car immediately pulls left or right. Also the Electronic Gas Pedal is slow to respond causing me to frequently stall on 1st gear on start up.

5- the bottom part of the front bumper is very fragile at cold temperature. It will break or crack at the slightest impact such as hitting a snow bank during parking.

1- metal-to-metal gear grinding noise when accelerating in a sharp turn at temperature below -10C.

- have you checked your cv boots, maybe one is torn

2- when braking the car to a full stop, the RPM momentarily drops to about 300 RPM for a second or two, causing the engine to shake.

-take it to the dealer, thats why you have a warranty, prob. just a simple adjustment

3- Rattles: miscellaneous rattles in the dash, pillars, glove box, doors, center console at various RPM and various road surfaces.

-after driving a little over 18,000 km last summer and fall (i do not drive my xrs in the winter) my car has no squeaks or rattles of any kind... strange you would have so many so soon, my biggest annoyance with the car is the oh so cheap interior on a car that costs me over $30,000 with the interest and taxes added in

4- not really issues but I hate the Electric Power Steering that makes the car wander left and right at highway speed. Also the Electronic Gas Pedal is slow to respond causing me to frequently stall on 1st gear on start up.

- a lot of people have complained about this, i have never noticed any problem with the car not tracking straight, only time i even think about the EPS is while parking because you can hear the electric motor running...

- in regards to the stalling in first gear problem, again i just dont see it, i stalled the car maybe twice since i bought it and that was going into my garage which has a 2inch lip at the entrance

5- the bottom part of the front bumper is very fragile at cold temperature. It will break or crack at the slightest impact such as hitting a snow bank during parking.

-its plastic...plastic is brittle at low temps... snow banks freeze and become harder then steel...

So far (knock on wood) I have had no issues with the car at all, kudos to Toyota for not selling me a lemon

I too have the RPM problem. Intermittently, Revs drop to about 400, then come back up.

Worst issue is wind noise!!, Dealer replaced the door seal, but didn't solve the problem. It's a whistling sound.

Brake squeal during extended stops (long braking) after warmed up (back brakes) XRS.

i have the same RPM problem. i just hit 5,000 miles on my car yesterday and it has been doing it since i got it. i have not taken it to the dealer yet i work and go to school so i just have not found the time to do it.
when i am coming to a stop sign or red light just before i come to a complete stop the rpms drop really low and it feels as it the car is about to die. it is VERY annoying and i am not liking the quality of toyota's in the past few years. seems like honda cars you hear less about with problems, and toyota the problems are rising by the year.

the factory radio has static reception on some FM channels. dealer said its normal because in some places the FM radio signal may be weak which is odd considering that it is only city driving.

that is just about my only complain.

^^^^LMAO 39.3 MPG ONLY ???? HAHAHAHA that is hilarious. try averaging 27.3 MPG and then complain buddy. i have been averaging 27 mpg since i have gotten the car and i just hit 5,000 miles yesterday. the mpg sucks compared to what they advertise. i wish i could get 35 mpg. 39 is amazing i dont know how you are averaging that.

yeah, i wasnt really complaining about the mpg, just being sarcastic. driving the stick conservatively and keeping it under 65 mph makes 40 mpg's not too hard at all. even in the dead of michigan winter i stayed above 35 mpg.

These are the two issues I have noticed so far.

As for the RPMs, I kept thinking that the car was going to stall when I came to a stop but I will see if I can find out the cause.

I noticed a lot more wind noise with the Corolla as compared to my Mazda. Not a huge issue as I am usually listening to music.
