Adding optitron gauges to other models

So if i buy some gauges from toyota or a totaled XRS/XLE, will they just plug right in to replace mine on my "S" ?? aslo does anybody know if Canada's digital climate control system would simply plug and play to replace the american manual style? thanks

That's a good question. The only thing that irks me about the 2010 Corolla is that the S comes with Optitron gauges, and I wanted those very badly when I bought my '09, haha.

WHAT!! those bastards! i am all around shocked at how toyota went about our cars. there are so many little issues that are not like toyota to let bye - and the they go do something like that - thats so disappointing. maybe we could add them.

does the gauge needle on the S do a sweep when you start the car? i know the xrs when you turn on the car the needle rpm and speed needle goes all the way around then back. i don't know if it's part of the gauge cluster that does that or whatever but just keep that in mind i guess =P

hopefully. its REALLY f-ed up that they would put out nasty yellow gauges in in the first place but even worse to change it in the second year of production. toyota typically does 3 years the same and then another 2 with different lights, bumperes, and interior. well anyway if somebody can find out that would be great.

bye the way anyone hand with soldering irons can change the PLCC-LEDs that light the guages to whatever color - i hvant cause i'm cautiose about ruining them and i wouldnt want to mis-match the radio/climate/steering wheel controls with the gauges...

lets figure this out - these yellow guages are hiddeous

as far as i know and seen, the only difference is the black plastic thing that contains the numbers and the brighter lights in the back. other than that, it's the same, and behaves the same. i think a change of the black plastic covering (whatever u call it) and the lights are all u need

too much involved in changing the lights - soldering tiny LED's the sice of a grain of rice isnt my cup of tea... do you know if the new gauges will just plug in the same way the old ones did with no mods???

the big question here now is... do we have a step by step instruction with pictures and diagrams that we could follow on how to remove the instrument panel and get to the inside of those lights and printed circuit boards? desoldering and resoldering is an easy task with the right tools.
