Need help with DIY Relay Harness

Sorry, I wasn't sure where to post this but since I have an 09 corolla, I thought maybe i'd put it here.

Looking for help with making my own relay harness. I have NO electrical education background. No background in cars.

Things I think I'll need:

20ft 14 Gauge wire
Disconnect Pairs (male and female) 14gauge
12 Volt 30amp Relay
electrical tape
20A fuse holder 14 gauge
15A fuse holder x 2
9006 male connector - where can I find this?

Do I need to do any soldering? Do I also need a crimping tool? if so, which one or are they all the same? Any tips anyone can provide? Anything else I should get?

I assume you're making your relay for HID lights since you mentioned 9006.

You don't necessarily need the 9006 male adapter, you can tap into the wires using butt connectors. You don't need to figure out which wire is positive and which is negative because the 85 and 86 pins are reversable.

That's a great price for anyone who's a rookie or only needs to do this once. All the equipment you would end buy buying just to make your own harness the first time will end up costing you more than the $20 you'd end up spending here.

From now on I'll recommend this site to my friends who ask me to make a harness for them. Great find Eddie

problem with all of those premade relays is that there's no fuse in between the relay and the bulb. There's always 1 between relay and battery, but none b/t relay and bulb. Isn't that important to have?

That's overkill, and isn't necessary. Of course having a extra buffer won't harm anything. I made my own harness back when I did my retro a few years back. I always drive with my lights on 100% of the time, regardless of it being day or night. Since having done the retro I've done a few 20 hours of straight driving sessions on the highway and have never had any problems with anything.

If the fuse is to contact points in the relay it'll cut off supply to the bulb so one fuse from battery will be sufficient.
