I'm currently at 7400KM's, and probably should hit 8000KM by the end of this month (April).
It says I should bring in my Corolla at 8000KM for my first service...is this necessary? I really don't want to spend close to $200, to get my fluids checked, basic oil change, brakes checked, etc.
Secondly, I'm thinking all I really want get done is an oil change, and even then get it done at Pennzoil and not at the Toyota dealership. I'm planning to replace the stock motor oil with Mobil 1 5W-20 Synthetic, thoughts? (I'm going to be buying 4.0L of oil myself, then asking the mechanic to change the oil, rather than using their own brands.)
Any thoughts, or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just got mine done yesterday.... it defientatly would not be $200, the first one is an oil change, the second is checking all the other stuff... Plus IF you got warranty with it you get free oil changes for the first 32,000 kms/3 years.....or at least i did... 4 free ones....
I would have done it before 8000 (mine was at 7600) but I never had the time. It's better to do the first oil change sooner because of the stuff in the engine that sometimes falls in or whatever when they make the car...
Something you may want to call the dealership you got your car at and ask if they had option or whatever...
Other than that, oil change doesn't matter where you get it done if you choose not to do at Toyota just make sure you keep reciepts because if anything happens and you don't have anything to prove you've done Oil changes it can void the warranty completely.....

At the Toyota dealer when I bought the car, I can do the maintenance outside, the important thing is to keep the receipts as proof. Just make sure you are following your car maintenance manual, there is a detailed table about all things to check at the miles/time.
I don't want to send my car to the dealer for a oil change because:
1. The last time, they didn't have the 5w-20 synthetic oil, all they wanted to do is to fill it with 5w-30 non synthetic, and that was strange because on the manual, it clearly says use 0w-20 or 5w-20 for the XRS, even on the oil cap says the same thing.

Yeah, good call about calling my dealership. But I really hope (assuming I do have free oil changes) the free oil changes can be carried over from dealerships. I bought my car in Brampton, but live in St. Catharines.
I have my appointment scheduled for this upcoming Saturday.

Shitty, but yeah after the first couple changes, I'm probably going to start doing the oil changes myself. I know how, just I want to make sure it's done 100% correctly. Especially since this is my first car.

I assume so, considering you can get warranty work done anywhere as long as it's Canada and a toyota dealer you should be able to get the oil changes done anywhere too... especially if they are the warranty ones...
I'm hoping for the same, bought mine in milton, live just outside of Burlington. would be so much nicer to go to Burlington for changes instead of Milton, but at least it's a closer distance than you, you'd have like a 2-2.5 hour drive if it can't be changed.... hope for the best though

true, but luckily my folks live in Brampton. I can always camp there for the weekend, and get it done on a Saturday or something..

So, apparently it's going to run me the following going with the,
Toyota Dealership:
$44.95 for a regular oil change
$92.75 for a synthetic oil change. They will provide me with Mobil 1 5w-20 4L's of oil at $47.80.
Pennzoil:
$22.99 for a regular oil change.
$22.99 Pennzoil + 42.99 (Canadian Tire for Mobil 1 4.4L of 5w-20 Synthetic).
I think I'm going to go with Pennzoil...
And no I do not get any free oil changes within my warranty. Apparently that's only the case if you get an extended warranty.
yea, that's what i meant... being a girl I figured I had better get extra warranty, Toyota or not lol
And yea, that seems like a much better deal... After my oil changes my boyfriends old boss will be doing mine... Bring my own synthetic and I'll pay like half the price!

no kidding eh. and 10-15 minutes to do the oil change at Pennzoil. compared to Toyota, not only do you have to book an appointment, but it takes roughly an hour!?
it shouldn't take them no more than 30 minutes.
