To Buy or not to Buy that is the Question

This Item Is Brand New!

Buy It Now Price: $168.15

Ok I'm buying some 6x9's for the Rear Deck if i'm going to remove the rear deck for the window tints I might as well put some speakers in ther Plus Dynamatt. Anyways I'm keeping the factory Navigation you think this speaker is overkill and will sound crappy? I have no idea what speaker to match with the factory navigation? if you know please let me know I only want to do this once. here is the speakers specs

The Evolution™ VR full-range speakers reflect JL Audio's extensive research into speaker construction. They reproduce the subtle nuances of delicate sounds like woodwinds or female vocals, yet still deliver the soul-shaking boom of an electric bass and the "thwack" of a rock'n'roll kick drum.
The VR690-CXi 6"x9" 2-way speakers feature tough polypropylene woofers that handle high power without compromising sound quality, giving your bass some real definition and impact. The ferrofluid-cooled 1" textile dome tweeters deliver smooth-sounding, high-frequency detail that adds ambient realism to your music. Built-in crossover networks blend woofer and tweeter output to deliver beautifully balanced sound.

Details:
  • 2-way 6" x 9" speakers (pair)
  • injection-molded mica-filled polypropylene woofer with butyl rubber surround
  • 1" treated textile dome tweeter
  • built-in crossover network
  • 4-ohm impedance
  • 2-80 watts RMS power range
  • frequency response: 45-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 91 dB
  • depth: 3-7/16"
  • warranty: 1 year

My friend thinks its a waste of money. He's like without an amp they will sound the same or worse cause the power from the head unit is weak. He's said I should just buy a bass link

That is a little expensive, IMO for 6x9... I have the Alpine SPR-69C sitting in my room waiting to install and I paid like $90... And yeah, you should look into getting an amp for the speakers too, not sure what the RMS output of the headunit is, but sure that it's not going to let you hear the full potential of the speakers...

upgrade your headunit first then buy speakers.

without a clean source, even JL's will sound muddy

agreed. Plus if your spending that kind of money on speakers you should replace them all after the head unit of course. I doubt you have to amp those.

MB Quart would be a much better choice. Outstanding sound and unmatched reliability.

Honestly. I think it is a waste of money. If you want better sound I would upgrade the headunit and an amp with good components(fronts with tweeters). Rear fill (which these are) are not very important for sound. You can get a great sound setup through a headunit, components and maybe an amp.

In your case you should look at the RMS wattage (2-80watts). The stock headunit can do what maybe 12watts being optimistic. These speakers will be grossly underpowered, and never reach their full potential. Maybe theyll sound better than the stock speakers, but anything powered off the stock headunit wont shine.

Thanks for the feedback that saves me time and money I am going to stick with the factory nav untill the newest aftermarket Navigations go down in price the ones i like are 1300.. So i found a soluation i'm going to buy BOSTON ACOUSTICS S95 2-WAY 6"X9" S SERIES CAR SPEAKER

There RMS is 35 watts so i think these will be a good upgrade to the factory 6x9's

I installed a set of Alpine SPS 69C2 and SPS 17C2 prior to adding an amplifier with the factory head-unit. I disagree with the statement that you can only get great sound if you replace the head-unit with an aftermarket unit. Many test have been done comparing the sound quality and overall frequency response between OEM vs Aftermarket with very little difference shown. The little difference would also be irrelevant if you mostly listen to MP3's, Satellite radio, radio since these are of a lesser audio quality. Once you use a speaker with a high sensitivity rating (lower overall power handling), you will get some improvement in sound quality (smoother high and tighter bass). Although an amp does improve the overall sound quality at higher volumes, it's not required for a good sounding system. If you like a lot of bass, then an amp/sub is a must.
