I was driving by a Toyota dealer and since I am in the market for a Venza I stopped in. The saleman asked me why I did not buy the Corolla I now drive at his dealer. I told him that it was because 7 months ago they told me that that dealer was a no-deal dealer, meaning full retail price only. I was only there because I am just starting my shopping and Venzas being fresh on the market might be full price everywhere. Has any of you encountered no-deal dealers?
dont talk to the sales people...talk to the manager, they usually give you good deals, i got lucky with mine and didnt have to deal with a sales person at all and the manager gave me a very good price for mine. other dealers i went to in edmonton most of them said NO we cant lower the price or give you anything else with it...it pays to shop around.
I've done this numerous times and it has worked 99.9% of the time (out in the parking lot). After doing my home work and getting the dealer invoice/cost, of the particular vehicle (less any factory rebates, promos, etc.), I add back $350 profit (dealers got to eat too) plus TT&L. At the dealership, I write a check, payable to the dealership, date it but DON'T sign it. As I hand it to the sales person, I state this is my 'out the door - drive out offer'. You've got to be disciplined enough to get up and walk out the door (with your check of course). Like I said, works most of the time when they come running out to the parking lot. I'm not a hard a$$, if we can get within $150 ($500 profit), it's a deal and sign the check.

In October I got $500 off my Corolla with 4 steel rims, Body side molding and $100 of dealer service included. There are a few dealers that offer crappy deals because they are in expensive areas. One dealer is on the Met ( main highway cutting through Montreal ) so he is a near no deal dealer and you may just get $100 or $200 off. What puzzles me is that this dealer is in a real crappy area, he is in the crappy section of town behind the oil refineries. They tell me that they offer "SERVICE" to their clients rather than deals.
OH my god I hate customers like you guys ... I am a toyota salesman and you make it so hard for me to do my job. my job is to upsell the car not the price. You have to understand these are ENTERY level vehicles (IE have only like $1200 mark up) ill give you an idea of how sales people get paid...
STRAIGHT COMISSION.
total selling price of vehicle. $20,000
the owner get 4% of that =$800.00 in his pocket
so now gross is at $400.00
I then get 25% of what ever is left in the gross
so i get $100 for a corolla and thats ONLY if I sell at FULL MSRP.....
then the dealership its self gets $300
just thought I would make you guys understand.
and if you walked in with a cheque not sighned and all that out in the parking lot id laugh and tell you to take a hike. The reason why we dont take you seriously is because you be suprised how many people come saying I am a serious buyer i am buying a car today blah blah blah and only about 1 out of 20 people ACTUALLY are serious so its kinda hard to take it seriously.
I actually treat the people that DONT say that more seriously.
just my two cents, be nice to your sales people were not ALL that bad.
