splash guard clips

i was wondering if anyone could help with an issue im having. the splashguards right under the center of the car have three clips. one came off recently and i got it replaced when i got my oil change at the dealer. recently i noticed it came off again so i went to the dealer and purchased some spares so i wouldnt have to go to the dealership to get it replaced whenever i would need it. yesterday morning i got under my car to put in the missing clip. i noticed there was oil residue towards the opening of the missing clip. didnt pay to much attention to it since there was no leak it was just dry oil. i replaced the clip and went about my day. 5 hrs later i was running an eron that didnt take more than 4 minutes when i came back to my house i noticed something black on the driveway. i got out of the car and it was the clip i had just replaced a couple of hours ago. i picked it up to inspect it and it was moist from the oil residue on the splash guard. as im holding it in my hand i turn it around and it breaks into 5 pieces like litterly falling apart. is it possible the the clip was faulty or that the oil residue disinigrated it? i live in cali so in the summer its gets easily over a 100 degrees. has anyone had the same problem with their splashguards? is the oil residue at the splash guards "normal" or is it possible that their is a leak somewhere? thanks in advance for the help.

during lunch yesterday i went under the car to scope it out. i did not find an oil leak anywhere there was just oil residue where one of the clips was. i got a wet towel and wiped off all the oil residue. i put in a brand new clip and so far it has held up (its alot longer than the 5 hrs it lasted with the last clip i installed). i decided that if the clip doesnt come off in the next week or so it should be good. if for whatever reason it comes off i decided to buy some nuts and screws for the clip. the clip that keeps coming off is the one on the passenger side next to the tow hinge. it is accesible to put a nut an screw (if needed). thanks everyone for your help.

i find it odd that you are more worried about the clip instead of the oil leak.

just an update on this issue i had. recently the same thing happened to the clips so i got feed up an i put small bolts and nuts instead of those plastic clips. when i went under the car there was plenty of rust so i took it to the dealership. they found out that the battery was leaking acid from the bottom and it happened to be settle in that area. they replaced the battery with a new one and they cleaned off all the acid residue around that area. just an fyi incase anyone experiences a similar issue. thanks everyone.
