Canada Hitch pictures

Bought a hitch for the car today and it look surprisingly good.
It is a Curt (Curt, Reese, Hidden Hitch same company).

The towbar is a lot longer than normal and I was unable to find them with regular stock, still looking.

I got plugin wiring....it will be easier to take out if I want too. There are 2 grommets with rubber plugs in the wheel well. I think I will route them through there.

This is the tubular one....it is close to the muffler. I almost got the square tube one but the one the store tried to sell me was all banged up. Forgot about the earlier post here and got the tubes.....if the muffler bangs on it I will complain to the hitch builder and see what they do. It cant be good for the muffler, could it?

Installation was soooooo easy.....5-10 minutes. Hitch places wanted to charge $100 for installing it and $35 for installing plug in wiring! Can anyone say taking advantage of unsuspecting customers?

1 person install, this is how I did it.
-torque wrench ($25 Princess Auto)
-6" socket extention
-3/4" socket
-lock-tite (permanent one)
-bag of lawn mulch

Place bag of mulch under the rear of car, this is what will prop up and hold the hitch high enough to get bolts in, the hitch is heavy.
align holes, add lock-tite to bolts, tighten then torque. All done.
Here are the pics.

Here are the pics

Could be for a bike rack thing....it is capable of pulling small light trailers also...

'10 is rated to tow 1500 pounds on the toyota.com website.

"Before towing, confirm your vehicle and trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. Do not exceed any Weight Ratings and follow all instructions in your Owner's Manual. The maximum you can tow depends on the total weight of any cargo, occupants and available equipment."

I do not know....the pic on the rear was taken level with the frame and shows the clearance with the stock item.

Yep, and when walking around the car it is totally hidden too I have to be 10ft or so away before I can see any part of it. I think Hidden Hitch makes a round tube one too. The dealer was unable to get one so maybe they pulled the round tube due to muffler bumping. Watch for a replacement model.

No one races their car with a boat on it.....boats are expensive

I will be towing a small 4x4 trailer that will be great for camping and other trips. I will also be maxing out with a small boat.

Other items:
-If the trailer is more than 1000lbs it requires brakes.
-Manual states to break in car with 500miles min before towing.
-standard 2 foot tow chains are too short. At least 3 feet will be needed.
-tranny cooler to come and extra oil changes

That's a great hitch! Would you mind measuring the clearance distance between the hitch and the muffler?

Reason I ask is that I tried to use my old Gen 9 Toyota OEM hitch (Hidden Hitch brand) on my gen 10 Corolla...and it looks similar to yours. It fits perfectly, but there's less than 1" clearance between it and the muffler so going around corners and hitting bumps would sometimes cause contact with the edge of the muffler.

Forgot to add, the bag of mulch is a stroke of genius!

I installed a bigger reese hitch on my old Tacoma and had to do a pretty good size bench press/full body hump press and fiddle around to get the bolts through. A bag of mulch coulda come in handy then.

Actually come to think of it I might have used a trolley jack, can't remember now.

sorry about the late reply
it was difficult to measure clearances.
about 1 1/2" going side ways a
about 1" or less down

I have not heard any clanking or banging yet. I have been over railway tracks and some pot holes at a about 40K/hr.

I was looking at the hidden hitch....it looks like it hides under the bumper but has the receiver stick out to the edge of bumper. I did ask the dealer (hitch and van chain) for a hidden hitch but they got me a Curt instead (because they don't give a * about the customer).

I think they probably both look good.
Any pics of the hidden hitch?

Thanks forresta for taking the time to measure the clearance. Where abouts in the GTA did you pick that up as I'd like to get ready for some bike trips this summer.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the Hidden Hitch - but I can say that it looks almost identical to the Curt one you have (hence my question about clearances.)

Enjoy that snazzy new hitch!
