X2 on the DIY maintenance, garage's rates are a huge rip off!!
200,000 is a modest goal IMO
I usually rotate my tires with every oil change (5000km), mostly out of habit after years of only owning 4x4 trucks

I've had quite a few minor problems with my car, no major. A few of the minor ones were caused by incompetent people working on it, or the like.
I am still happy with my decision to get it, had it for 15 months, just under 25,000kms (15,000 miles), so less than the original poster, but it's a chunk, heh.
thats sick, 40k !!!! holy shit hahahaha. my car will be a year old in Sept and i am just approaching 7,000 miles on mine, my car is at the dealer right now tho =(

Congrats on the Car and miles... but that's a lot in a year in my opinion, but congrats anyway. I had my XRS 09 corolla for a year also and I only have 7400 miles and that hurts

It is sick! My company moved and I now have to commute 160 miles a day.
But that is why I bought the Corolla, reliability and good mileage.
I got my 09 XRS on 05/31/08... currently reading 41,280 miles.
Gas mileage is decent for an XRS that is not handled with kid's gloves 99% of the time. Regardless, all the miles are highway miles (some will debate that those are "the easiest" miles you can put on a car).
Over MPG is in high low 30's on average. Best I've ever done on a consistent basis was about 39 MPG (95% highway, 5% "city" or non-expressway type driving). That was during a two week period where I thought I'd see how high I could average the MPG. Since then, like I said... low 30's at best... 28.8-28.9 is what the dash counter typically settles on after a reset.
Beyond that, the car has had the oil changed every 5,000-ish miles, at the dealer (since it's under Toyota's extended warranty). I don't mind paying thme $31.00 to change my oil in 15 minutes.
Tires are garbage. They are the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. They have about 20,000 or so of the 41K on them (Blizzaks in the winter). Even with regular rotations, they are down to the wear bar. Tire Rack has them the RS-A's on sale for something like $74.00 USD each, with a $40.00 mail in rebate when you buy (4) tires. But I probably won't go with them again.
No "major" issues mechanically. All of the annoying squeaks and rattles that others have described... oh and a decent handful of stone chips of varying sizes on the front bumper and hood, and one rock chip in the windshield. No biggie. Overall, runs like a top (like new) and looks pretty good for a 41K car.
I thought I'd racked up a few at almost 25k in about 13 or 14 months. 200k is a modest goal. I am thinking 300k is minimum. Averaging around 37 MPG lifetime with a few 40 MPG tanks.
I'm doing my own Mobil 1 oil changes at 5k. Rotated tires once at 10k and need to do it again. Very happy except for the intermittent hard rattling on start-up. Runs too good to make that kind of noise.
