Get a piece of tape and tape over the blinking light so it doesn't bother you.

Also take your owners manual out of the glove box and throw it in the trash. The lighter weight will help your gas mileage. No need for it to be in there since you can't be bothered to read it.

Oh, to stay on topic, mine's blinking too. Gonna take it in soon.

Trying to get him to shake the rocks out of his head and use some common sense.

Not a lot of that around the corolla section of this forum.

I don't think you know quite as much about what Toyota recommends as you think.
I don't remember saying that Toyota didn't recommend 5000 miles ......all I said was that sooner is better....sorry I wasn't more specific Mr. Corolla....

I see. So if we change it at 50 miles we will be way better off than 3000.

Thanks

Changing every 50 will ensure the oil is never too dirty! Just make sure you change the filter as well. Also, rotate the tires every other oil change, replace the brake pads when the maint req light starts blinking and changing all the light bulbs every 6 months should prevent them from burning out. (Oh, and please bring your car to me for all your maintenance please.)

Maintenance Req'd light pops on, check manual. Most likely oil change is needed. If any other combination appears, check manual.

Time to lock thread, no?

Actually I don't enjoy it. What I can't stand is misinformation on a car forum. If you look at the poll on the age of the Corolla owners here it is a pretty young audience. They read this stuff and believe it.

Todays oil has an additive package, wear package if you will. Almost all oil will last longer than 3000 miles. Toyota recommends a 5000 mile change interval.

It you do it every three and it makes you happy by all means do it.
You will be spending 40% more on oil and filters than Toyota feels necessary.
On all of my other vehicles I have done UOA (used oil analysis) and ran them anywhere from 6500 to 8000 miles depending on what percentage was highway miles. The UOA's always came back great.

This is the first brand new car I have bought in a while and the dealer will give you an unlimited engine Warranty and free tires if you change the oil and rotate the tires every 5K at their dealership. I have chosen this approach on my corolla based on time savings.

I don't really feel I am beating a dead horse, I just like to see good information posted in a thread.

Thanks for your input though.
