yea man...if u havent gotten your oil change yet then its because of that... recommended oil change for our cars is 8000 kms or 6 months, whichever comes first....

Uh..... yeah. Did you change your oil at 5K like you were suposed to? Light will start going on when maintenance OIL Change is required.
Not to be a tool, but if you read your owners manual, all of that information is in there. Grab a coffee and a nice chair and rear through it. There is a lot in there you should know.

As you approach 10,000 miles it will go from blinking on start up to staying lit constantly. This also should've happened as you approached your first 5,000 miles.
This will occur at 5,000 mile intervals since that is when our oil changes are recommended...

Or just stay lit if you don't change the oil and get the indicator re-set.

Set the odometer to total mileage..ie..10,000 or whatever,....turn the car off.....hold the odometer button in while turning on the key.....continue to hold the button till the light goes out....it automatically comes on after 5000 miles since the last reset. For oil changes...even though you should change at 3000....go figure...
Get a piece of tape and tape over the blinking light so it doesn't bother you.
Also take your owners manual out of the glove box and throw it in the trash. The lighter weight will help your gas mileage. No need for it to be in there since you can't be bothered to read it.

Toyota says 5000 miles.
This isn't 1975. Oil technology as well as engine technology have changed.
you don't need to change at 3,000 miles, but it won't hurt thats for sure. I go 5,000 on synthetic. Overkill, most likely. But makes me feel better. Any name brand dino can go past 3,000. Use Castrol GTX, valvoline or pennz. YB. I prefer Mobil 1, or Synpower
Changing your oil sooner than later is ALWAYS recommended no matter what car company or car it is. ALWAYS no matter new or old check your oil levels and know how to tell if it needs to be changed. One of the very first things my father taught me when I bought my very first car was how to check my oil. Being a girl I did not necessarily know this and was glad someone informed me. I have yet to go all the way to the "recommended" amount and I am doing it on purpose. I swear the people/person who had my previous car before me never did oil changes on time and because of that the car ran horrible. If you change it at 3k or 5k it wont matter the most important thing is it gets done and done before the 5k mark so that you don't void warranties (in this case) and your car stays running for a VERY long time!
