where is the hole in the firewall?

i just got a 09 corolla and have yet to take it apart or anything to see where the firewall and everything is. i was wondering where the firewall to run the power wire to the trunk is. i was told that it is on the passenger side in the 09 corolla instead of the driver side. and is it big enough to fit 0gauge through without drilling?

There's one on the driver and passenger side. It's the nipple that sticks out on harness grommet. It was a tight squeeze with a 4 gauge wire therefore anything larger would be pushing it. There's nothing loss if you give it a try, but you might succeed if you use a bit of lube to help the process along. I found the hardest part was getting the wire started in the nipple.

I put a point on a coat hanger to poke a hole in the nipple so the wire would go throughthen taped the wire to the coat hanger and yanked it through. There is no hole in the nipple of the firewall grommet to start with.

Haha I did that too xD

When I was getting my subwoofers installed, the people installing them drilled a hole through my firewall to stick the 4 guage wire through.

I don't think you have to drill.

The driver's side the grommet on my XRS was zip tied on the engine side.

There was also the nipple but it would be tough to fit anything larger than a 4 gauge through.

In any event, if you cut the zip tie you can feed it through the wall no problem, you just have to put a slit in the sleeve of the grommet on the drivers side to feed it out as there is no way you're going to get it all the way up the sleeve. Just be careful to slit the sleeve over your newly fed wire so you don't damage any of the existing wire within the sleeve.

I did this for two 4 gauge wires and there was plenty of room left.

After i just zip tied it back up and i was good to go.

The main issue is dissasembling the air intake and monitoring to get enough room to work it in from the engine side. Just keep track of what you removed from where.

Regards,
J

i was thinking about drilling on the passenger side where my friend had his 4 gauge ran. it was a plastic circle all the way up under the glove compartment on the upper right behind the kick panel. not completely sure what its for, but ill take a look when i get home from work and ill report back.

I didn't make this word up. The actual quote in the TIS instuctions is "LARGE RUBBER NIPPLE", go figure. I guess that's why we always refer to our rides as "HER".
