I have an 09 corolla which I like to drive with an open window since I hate A/C. The problem is that I get an ear pounding vibration in the car. I"m not sure, but I think it is caused by the air going past the open window. Is this a common problem and is there a fix?
If you haven't experienced this, try driving 55- 60 MPH and completely open one of the front windows.
Thanks for any comments
Sorry, the title should say pounded, not punded.

Try cracking open the passenger side window a little. This may relieve the pressure building up inside the car. I like to think of it like blowing across a soda bottle and getting a tone if you only have one window open. For me it is really pronounced if I open the rear windows without opening the fronts.

I only have it when one is open...it's a pressure build up...either crack the rear windows or just always have two windows open at the sametime.

I have this issue all the time... Because I bought the CE model i do not have the sunroof, and becuase my dog is in the back most of the time i leave the rear window open.. and while driving all i get is ... WOMP WOMP WOMP WOMP.... kinda annoying so just crack the front windows and i'm good....
you may have the same effect if opening the passenger window, all you have to do is open the rear windows as well! even if its a little bit, the pounding or whomp whomp whomp has to do with the pressure difference and the suction that is made as you go higher in speed!

Thanks for all the responses. I was surprised at the problem because this is the first car I owned that was so irritating. I'll practice playing with various window combinations and live with it.
^^ Really? I'll have to try that again but I typically open the back windows with the sunroof open so I can get rid of this noise (sunroof causes the "whoomp" when open alone).
I do the drivers side window and the sunroof open all the time and I don't get that. Perhaps to me it's not as pronounced in comparison. Now I gotta go out and try it again dammit! LOL
