Ready to pull the trigger on a 2010 Corolla S - Opinions on price?
Hi everyone
Long time reader, first time poster. And let me start out by saying I have searched for information but havn't found what I was looking for.
As the title states, I'm ready to go for a 2010 Corolla S, manual transmission. It's got the moonroof, 16" alloy wheels, spoiler, power everything, keyless entry, etc.
I'm looking at an out the door price of about $18,500 - $18,700. Am I wrong in thinking this is a pretty good deal?
Watch the rebates... twelve days after I bought mine the rebate went up $500
Of course when I e-mailed Toyota about taking care of me, they said "tough luck" and since I mentioned it to the dealer during their follow-up call after the sale, I haven't heard from 'em since...
That's Toyota on the left and the dealer on the right... I'm the sticky guy in between 'em...
I live near one of the two CarMax locations in the country that sell new Toyotas...
They currently show three "S" manuals with sunroofs in stock. Prices are
$16,948 MSRP $18,965 (guessing "S" Extra Value Pkg inc s/r and 5pc mats)
$17,348 MSRP $19,545 (JBL & s/r)
$17,498 MSRP $19,775 (JBL, s/r and 5pc mats)
Sounds like yours is equipped like the one CarMax sells for $16,948.
What's your sales tax? If it's 6.5% I think there's still another $300 they can knock off.
I'd shoot for $18,000 and pull the trigger around $18,200 OTD tops.
I went to www.edmunds.com and inputted all of the information with options and printed the final page. I then took this with me to three dealerships and the third one got me below the edmunds recommended price. I saved over $3,000 using this technique to include using dealerships against one another. Good luck with your ride!
This isn't a complete comparison, but I purchased a 2009 S Manual with the same options. I think the 2009s and 2010s are about the same price though so you might be able to compare some.
I paid about $16.5k out the door. That was with a $1750 Toyota rebate and a $1000 Recent Grad rebate. I think the base price on the car (before Taxes, Tags, and Delivery) was about $15.2k (this included the $1750 rebate, but not the $1000 rebate). Not sure if the rebate is still around now, but that means that my base price on the car before TTD or any other rebates was about $16k. You can use that to calculate out the door based on your tax rate and destination for your area.
I agree with using Edmunds (as I did to compare), but I actually got a better price than what Edmunds listed. I wouldn't necessarily settle for that price. Just email several dealerships and get them to fight against each other.
Just off hand, I would say $18.5k is probably high.
$18.5K? That sounds high. I helped my friend get a red Corolla S 5-speed this weekend. The car was equipped with the power/tilt moonroof + body moldings on the doors. It was $16328 + doc fees (which were pretty cheap) + tax. She did not qualify for the college grad rebate. Sales tax is 5%, the total paid for the car was under $17.5K. This was at http://www.charliestoyota.com/ located in Maine. 18.5K is too much too high unless you are looking at a car with the JBL system and some other options.
I went to the Mazda dealer and test drove the 10 mazda 3 and they were gonna put me in that grandma car for about 20,000
I drove the Mazda to Toyota and put the cars side by side and told the sells person that i was comparing them.
walked out of toyota with a sunroof, jbl system, 6 disc, bluetooth, manual S, power this and that for 17.4 it was sticker at 21 something or 20 something
after the 1000 rebate, and after taxes and tags and all that jazz.
it was my first car loan and i had hardly any credit.
no co signer they are desprite, BUY IT!

Pretty good deal...I would recommend the JBL if anyone gets an S, XLE, or XRS model...definite must have. XM Radio rocks.
yeah, XM rocks, untill the free period is up .. which i'm almost there.
I"m trying to decide if i would pay the extra to keep it, or just listen to the radio.
