automatic door locks(helpfull information)

i have an 09 corolla s auto.
i wanted to change it so it would not unlock when you put it into park. i read the manual Page 42. it says to
step 1: turn key to on position (engine off)
step 2: shift the lever to p or n(for stick). and press the the lock button for approximately 5 seconds and then let go to activate or deactivate the auto locking. or if you push and hold the unlock it activates or deactivates the auto unlocking.

well they don't say to wait for the seat belt chime, when you hear the chime push and hold the lock or unlock button depending on what you want and release just prior to the end of the chime. -- they don't say this in the book, but this is the only way to get it to work. hopefully i helped some ppl out with this info. and hopefully not a repost lol

ok so i tried this and it does work...well it does something cause i can hear the locks click. BUT, how is it suppose to work? so if i program it to unlock, when i stop by car and turn the ignition off is it suppose to unlock the doors automatically? likewise, if i set it to the lock feature, is it supposed to lock the doors automatically when i start driving? i have a manual.

If you have a manual transmission, it will lock the doors when you get over 5 mph. That's how mine's set up to work. Got the info from the owners manual. It only refers to automatic transmission versions but it works on manual transmissions for locking. Does NOT automatically unlock, but pulling the door handles on the front doors will still unlock and open them. It's a great feature.

I tried doing this with mine (also a manual) but it's not doing anything at all! =(

What am I doing wrong? Should my e-brake be down or something?

no no ur ebrake is fine pulled up, basically its exactly as the other people said, u get in the car, put ur keys in ignition and turn to on position, as soon as u hear the seatbelt chime, push down and hold the LOCK button till the seat belt chime turns off (chimes 5 times, so as soon as the 5th one is going to be over release it). u will hear the locks clicking. then with ur doors unlocked just take ur car for a drive. after driving for maybe couple of seconds or so (maybe 10 kms/hr or above speeds) your doors will lock automatically.

I tried this with my 09 CorollaLE. After the procedure, when I opened my drivers door, the horn beeped 5 times. All auto locking went away. Everything else seems to still work. Not much car hijacking in my area, don't think I need the auto-locking wearing out the mechanisms. My car is Japanese-made, bought it in March 2009.

Cool. never knew anything was possible on the 5spd. My old vw used to do that.

I have a 2009 Corolla S. I tried to have the automatic lock feature enabled, but wasn't successful. When I read the manual, it said I need to have a smart key to have this feature turned on (my understanding). Is this true?? My key is integrated with diamond shape handle, instead of rectangular key.

If anyone with 2009 S was able to enable this feature, I'd like to know.

Thank you,

Hyper

Hello,

I got it to work. The lock you are supposed to hold is the driver side door lock button!!!! I don't know if this was obvious to the whole world but me, but I read from another thread, and I was able to make it work!

Thank you all for responding.

Hyper

is that something that is actually of real concern?

It just seems to me a lot more can go wrong by the time the power locks wear out..
