To Fix or Not to fix...

I tell you... New Cars suck cause anything happens and it hurts deeply...

I have had this for 3 months and some idiot decides to put caramel on my hood which in turn leaves a terrible mark...

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE mark. I might take a picture when I get home and post it. But what to do... I called my trusty auto body guy to see if I can make an appointment so he can look at it... He says about 300 or so, and that a touch up would look ugly.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a new hood when you have the money. Or you can get it sanded down and repainted. The cost might be worth just getting a new hood though.

Sucks man. I had someone door ding me

go to the toyota dealer...often times they have little spray paint bottles for touchups that cost about 40 dollars.
get it in your color and do a bit of touch up but use it sparingly. possibly dilute it even cuz it is thick as $h1t...once applied take wax paper and cover it while applying pressure. this will thin it out and spread it so it coats more area and blends in better. once dry, peel the wax paper and use a rubbing compound this will also even it out a bit. let it sit take it for a wash and wax......

it will still be noticable but not as bad and alot less expensive

yea i hear u bro, new cars do suck in this sense...anything happens to them even small it hurts! if ur strapped for cash rite now dont bother with it, fix it later when u know you have some extra bucks lying around. touchup paint wont look it if its quite a noticable mark on ur hood....best bet is to repaint ur hood.

Insurance should cover the repairs but you would still have to pay a deductible. You could get a carbon fiber hood as an option.

how much is your deductable? i don't know about you but for most of us, it would be more economical to pay the $300 for repairs out of pocket than pay off the deductible and deal with the possible rising insurance cost.

deductible is cheap... 250. but why would I pay a 250 deductible when I can pay 300 for labor in general.

hey bro I am a body repair expert. if it is above the surface of the car what you will need is 1000 and 2000 grit sand paper, 3m rubbing compound, and a orbital buffer. sand off the carmel but do not sand through the clear coat... if you do you will need it repainted. once the carmel is off buff it back to a shiny finish. buff slowly you can burn the paint and the paint on these cars is cheap and thin.

Odd thing to end up on a car..LOL And strange it would leave a permanent mark but I guess you learn something new every day. Keep candy away from car...
As for the quote, if it really needs a repaint, $300 is about right. Just hope it matches or they are good at matching and they actually take the time to tweak the mix so it does. Many shops use a formula to make a batch and don't bother to check the match.

That makes absolutley no sense.. Can you break that down for me how buying a new hood AND having it painted would be cheaper than having it re-painted?
