Driver side clunking noise 09 S - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I am hearing a clunking sound from the driver side when I apply the brakes at low speed...usually when coming to a complete stop with the wheel turned. No similar sound from the passenger side. Not sure what is causing the sound but its clearly coming from the driver side wheel.

Its a 2009 S with no performance or suspension mods.

Thoughts?

Could be a loose or bad sway bar linkage or loose bolts on the strut tower. Both have been mentioned here as being issues before.

Got this looked at today by my local dealer and it was a loose sway bar bolt. They tightened it and I was able to get a free wheel alignment out of it as well!

Glad it all worked out. I've had that same thing happen on other cars as well, especially on the older ones when the rubber bushings wear out and crack off.
