Cool things you discovered about your Corolla

Don't know if this is in the manual...

With the radio off, pressing any of the memory station buttons will turn the radio on to that station.

I know...it's no big deal...but...

Tie down loops in the trunk and the garbage bag hanger on the passenger side of the console - I used to hang a garbage bag from the gearshift in the old Mazda

AND the trip computer! They don't put that in any of their brochures. (Although it would have been better if you didn't need to switch display modes to see things...like the clock?!?!?!).

I found out that if I drive 55 mph on cruise control for a long trip with few stops I get 42 mpg which is well above EPA ratings. I used to get 44 mpg out of an 84 Corolla 5 speed with cruise driving the same way. I think that is not too bad for a non-hybrid economy car considering how much more stringent the EPA requirements are now.

A $12 Tote umbrella from Wallmart fits right between the seat tracks and rolls up under the seat out of sight.

The TPMS works pretty good and went off at 8 psi underinfation - kept me from getting a flat on the highway.

TPMS has worked well for me diagnosing a tire problem before really looking at it or taking it into the dealer, a nail was causing a slow leak. As well, I'm just stunned how quiet the engine is at idle, you have to strain to hear it. Now it's a touch noisy at acceleration but that doesn't last long before it's nice and quiet again.

I've also noticed how good the Fuel Economy is at conservative highway speeds, but also how quickly it gets worse the more you, ahem, go over the speed limit.

I have the smart key system and I'm really enjoying that, amazing how well it detects your key inside or outside the car.

It's an unadvertised hybrid - it burns gasoline AND motor oil...

ditto that here... though pushing FM1, FM2 or AM turns it on to the last station played... like as if I just pushed the "on" button
