Unhappy 2009 Corolla Base Upgrades??

Hi everyone,

I purchased a base '09 Corolla, and was hoping to get some upgrades for it, specifically in-dash GPS, cruise control, remote start, etc. I just got back from the Toyota dealer, and the parts department told me there is no way to upgrade anything, and it comes that way out of the factory! I'm very disheartened by this, and am now wondering if I should have just paid the extra for an LE or XLS.

Can you please confirm wether or not the above listed upgrades are or are not available? Of I cannot get OEM parts, where can I go to get some of those things installed? I'm not brave enough to attempt any upgrades myself.

I started to look at GPS/stereo upgrades, but BestBuy says there are none that fit the vehicle. I guess I'd also need a mounting kit of some sort, right? Please help!

Thanks,

jasphair

Scosche makes a dash kit and wiring harness which makes almost any aftermarket stereo compatible. Don't go to best buy for anything. You'll save lot of money bargain shopping on amazon or eBay. The install is pretty straight forward and there's a guide on the forum.

Just remember you have 30 days to return any purchases with out any penalty. I would remind the service manager of this because any of those parts should be interchangeable

Most of those items can be installed at any trim level, however, if you can install it yourself, you might as well try and buy an LE because its going to cost a ridiculous amount at the dealer.

US and Canadian models are differently equip as standard. Even their option packages are different.

I found a local installer of alarms, remote start systems and accessories who put in cruise control for my Echo. It was a high quality system with its own control stawk on the steering column. I think it was about $350 in 2002. I would google a bunch of words and phrases with your city and see if anything comes up.

I found the installer in the yellow pages after getting several prices. Besides alarms and accessories, car audio installers sometimes do this work too so look there also. Ask the places you call who does a good job on cruise cotrols and you will probably be directed to a good place. Sometimes the service people at a car dealer will tell you who they have install cruise controls on new cars and that is a good bet for a quality job. Same idea for remote starters and Nav. units. I get free Crutchfield catalogs and they do a decent job of comparing Nav units so you can learn what to look for in features.

Yes you can up to 30 days from purchase without any penalty. It falls under some sort of buyers remorse clause

From my dealer I heard that it's best if you don't add the in-dash GPS. Just buy one from your local electronics store.

cruise control can been done
This is DYI for the 9th Generation, But I believe it going to be the same procedure

DIY: 2008 Corolla Aftermarket Cruise Control Installation - Automatic (GEN9)

In Dash GPS is not that hard, provide that you have the unit, go to crutchfield (make sure get the wiring harness) and they will provide you with detail instructions on it if you plan to DYI.

As Remote Starter, I recommend you go to a professional as you will messing with electrical wiring.

I've never heard of such a thing, could you please offer a link? As far as I know, dealers are not required to provide a "cooling off" period for any new vehicle sale.
